Re: Longer Brake, Clutch and Throttle Cables / Hoses

    Hey all,

Making progress but still some issues with the throttle cables, unfortunately Nick couldn't find a viable way of doing the cables. I have ordered some from Venhill but they have a back log of work and are taking a while to get them sorted.

I have a question though, is it just standard solder used to fix the cables into the barrel nipple ends?

I have a cable making kit (bought from Trials Bits) and it has the bits I need for making a longer cable except for the barrel nipple ends so I was thinking of taking the ones from the existing cable and drilling out the existing wires and solder and then soldering in the new cables. I have standard corrosion resistant solder so I was wondering if this would be appropriate for the job?

    Cheers,
    Stef

i have used ordinary electrical solder in the past with some success just make sure you have the countersunk part of the nipple cleaned out and splay the cable first

Did you get the decompression cable sorted? I've just fitted Rox to a 640a and had to disconnect it

    Hi Martin,

Yeah, I got it sorted. Originally I bought a cable making kit and made a longer one but it snapped during the rally.

However, I replaced it with a standard cable as I found it fits if you just reroute it. Originally the KTM EXC had the cable is routed on the RHS of the frame and around the steering column. However if you reroute it on the LHS then it will reach easily without being stretched or kinked. Just make sure it doesn't interfer with the throttle cables, just use some cable ties to hold in place and ensure it doesn't impede the tank sitting on the frame.

Let me know if you can't reroute it, I have some cable making equipment that may be of use to you.

    Stef
