I have a leak from the gear lever shift shaft in the parts book it shows an oil seal can anybody tell me if this job can be done from the outside or is the oil seal fitted from the inside of the case

Hi Ashley,
Sorry can’t answer your question but before you begin are you sure its oil? The clutch slave cylinder is down there and is known to leak.

Yes it was engine oil and I found the answer on the ADV site, yes you can change it from the outside but it’s a bit of a fiddle, however on closer inspection I found it was not coming from the gear shift shaft, it was in fact from the hose that goes into the bottom of the oil tank the factory clamp had come lose and oil had been running down the pipe and under the engine and when the bike was on its side stand it was dripping onto the floor, right under the gear shift, it wasn’t till I had taken of the fuel tank and sump guard off then cleaned the bike, then run the bike up to temperature in my garage that I could final see it, still it turned out to be an easy fix.
