    Seat Mods

    Hi All,

now that Im keeping my KTM I have decided to spend a few bob on it. Can anyone recommend a good seat modification or upgrade. I have added a sheepskin but that’s only good in nice weather. I hear that after 2006 all models come with gel seats, is the new seat a big improvement over the old one, if so would it fit an 05 950 Adventure? Any other suggestions for improving the comfort, I have heard people saying the Airhawk seats are good but Im only 5'10" and wonder if the bike would be too tall for me with an Airhawk.

By all accounts the Airhawk should not be fully inflated, just enough to spread the load a bit bitter so you would probably only sit a fraction higher.
Someone posted a good link about selfbuilding seats the other day

    Try a bicycle pant...

I bought one for the Longest Day as extreme distances on the Tiger got quite uncomfortable (I could do 150 miles without a problem, but after twice that, it gets painful!).

The pants worked a treat for me, and as an added bonus also ease my suffering when cycling

    £24.95

'04 Tiger (MRA-Vario screen, Crash bars, K&N Airfilter, dual headlamp upgrade. Colour: orange, 'cause I'm Dutch, innit!)

Your new bike is supposed to have a gel seat , but I still found it tough going on TLD2008. I don't know if it really is gel or not ???
    2011 Triumph Tiger 800 - "Black Pussy" - MMMM Nice !!!
    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!

According to teh interwebz all post 2006 models have gel seats... Does it have the standard or lowered seat?

I'll be bringing my trusty cycle pant up with me on Saturday, just in case

It has the seat that came with it , so I assume "standard" - the cycle shorts might just be a good idea !!! but if your going to do a mini tour home , it will be fine - plenty of stops , for coffee and camera shots , not like TLD , where it was just slog it out between fuel stops.

    Re: Seat Mods

Cycle pants sound like a nice cheap option, anyone got recommendations on a particular type and web link. Im not up for modifying the seat myself, every time I try things like that it gets very expensive. I would happily buy the Touratech seat if I thought it would make a real difference, it looks good but is very expensive.

A mod I am trying just now that seems to be working is I have hacked up an old camping mattress and strapped it to the seat under a sheep skin. Its feels a lot better but I have not had a chance to try it on a long run yet. The down side it its adding about 30mm to the height which is a struggle at times.

Gel saddle? Pah! I have a 2008 model 690 Enduro and the seat is the harder than a hard thing studying hardness. I've sat on concrete that has been a softer experience for my poor derrier! There's no gel in them thar seats, Jim.

    Re: Seat Mods

I must have an iron butt as I have ridden some big distances on my '04 950 and don't have a prolem with the seat.

No worse than my old RD04 and Transalp and much better than my DR350.

    1998 Suzuki DR350
