Re: 07 990 ADV battery issues

Buggles, I've had a very similar problem recently.

    Ran bike - no problems.

Cam back to bike after 3 week snow enforced break , bikey no starty - mmm, battery must need a charge. Put on charge overnight, next day battery back on, starter motor turning over but no firing .

Few consultations over on the other forum, it appears a few others have had this problem. Cleaned all the connectors (as per Chad's post), and they were GRIMEY, plugged it all back in, Bike fires into life, but cuts out after 15-20 seconds - WTF? Invalauable help from fellow KTM owner in Brentwood (Hi Steve!) said could be fuel pump. Fuel pump disconnected - points were shagged.

New Electronic fuel pump (FACET 40171) from
    Taps, Facet Pumps, Filters

Excellent service as well. Fitted new fuel pump, and now she run lovely!

All I'm saying is, it might NOT be your battery, could be summat else.

Yes the fuel pump was replaced under warranty at approx 1600 miles , but it was obviously the fuel pump - there was no "whirring" noise, pump priming, when you turned the key. I just put it down to what we call in the electronics industry - an EARLY LIFE FAILURE. Because the work was done at the dealers under warranty I did not get to see the fault. I was just glad to get my baby back after a couple of days riding a 690 SM loaner and getting covered in kack from that stupid front mud guard !!!
    2011 Triumph Tiger 800 - "Black Pussy" - MMMM Nice !!!
    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!

    Oh I know !!!

Another 2 days with that thing and I would be - getting tattoos - piercing my nipples with a ballpoint pen - drinking beer from tins - smoking inside public buildings - barking at the moon - eating spam fritters - having illegitimate children - challenging total strangers to fights - AND DOING 35 IN 30.

A wee one man episode of Shameless !!!

Thank goodness I got another Transalp - now where is that application form for the Clergy ??

Anyway - sorry JB back to your battery........... moi-son.

Re: 07 990 ADV battery issues

Some delays to working on the bike due to life getting in the way (or rather, the relocation of my life to another country).

Battery goes in tonight, and I'll ride her into work tomorrow before she's put on a trailer to Amsterdam for safe keeping until I get the keys to my wee house in Belgium.

Getting mine in a couple of days from the Manila dealer, then riding up to Cebu City for the 16th National Motorcycle Convention March 4-7th. Bike will have it's second service there and get a new rear Scorpian too. Looks like being an expensive weekend!

Don't be fooled! A friend of my family in 1975 moved from Manhattan to a sweet cottage in rural Belgium. He'd never witnessed any violence in New York.

A few days after he moved in, he came out his rose-strewn door to find an armed paratrooper, dead on his drive. His 'chute hadn't opened and the Belgian army hadn't had time to come and scoop the poor fella up.
