    Waypoints for Morocco....

Does anybody have waypoint for Morocco, especially route into Todra Gorge or links to a site where I can find them.

Big trip in May, which I'll post obviously.

    Cheers

Chris Scotts Sahara book will have the co ordinates. The Todra Gorge is attached to a medium sized town so it's pretty easy to find without GPS. Also go to the Horizons Unlimited site.

Town below and the mouth of the gorge below that.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

Thanks, We are looking to do routes M6, M8 & M9 from Chris Scotts (latest) book but I was looking for the route in from the north, Midelt area.

Perhaps somebody has done a similiar route and has got the track file from their GPS?

As a side point - people must have a play with Google Earth, you can upload your waypoints into it! bloody amazing this interweb thingy....

I did the route from Midelt to Todra using a few key GPS waypoints taken straight off an IGN map (WGS84). It's quite easy to follow, the GPS was just a comfort. It may even be tarmacced some of the way now, there were signs of road beds being prepared when I was there in 02. The tracks are well defined and once you're in the gorge there's only one way to go. If a track splits it just meets up again later on.

I used this website (in French but you can Babelfish it if necessary) when I went to Morocco last year and used the GPS points.

    http://www.voyages4x4.com/roadbook_maroc.htm

I did the route from Midelt to Tinerhir via the Todra Gorge and it worked well even though one part of the route was impassable due to damage to the piste.

There is now tarmac in the Todra Gorge itself and for quite some distance up into the mountains afterwards but rough pistes can still be found!

I am heading off to Morocco today for a month. Will ride all the M routes from East to West if possible. I guess we will still be there by the time you arrive. John +372 53104847. Check out www.oneroam.co.uk for a very cheap phone home option for your moble!

How was the trip? I'd be interested in knowing the routes some of you took?

I've been to Morocco several times now (6) but never by bike. I've hitched from UK to Marrakesh and have also driven the same route. The other more recent times I took an overnight train from Tangiers to Marrakesh then hired a car to drive to Fez via the high Atlas, Todre Gorge, Ouarzazette etc... Loved it every time.

Hoping to go next March/April and having not driven down from Tangiers in 8-9 years I havent a clue on the best route for a bike. Was planning to follow my trusty michellin Map currently held together with tape. Maybe I'll have a Sat Nav by then.

I am also in the throws of looking for a good route for a tour of Morocco, I have not toured this part of the world before but the basic plan is to come in from Spain on the ferry and spend 9-10 days touring. We would like to take in some 'fire roads' and some of the best biking routes along with a visit or three to some of the exotic places along the way. I would class our party of riders as experienced road riders, but not sand loving desert jockies (we are willing to have a go at some sand though after fitting our Continentals).

Anyone suggestions for a route?, places to see etc?
