England back to New Zealand - any suggestions?

Early days yet but may consider going back home to New Zealand in a couple of years by overland as much as possible.Seems a far more fun way than jumping on a 747. Any suggestions for a possible route? I have a feeling this is going to take a lot of planning, will probably spend 6 months doing it.

Head south east, keep going until you get wet, catch a boat to the next bit of land. repeat until you find the land with a long white cloud.

and enjoy the ride.

You can also check out Horizons unlimited, but you have probably done that already...

It is going to be a mammoth trip & have got loads to prepare. My mechanic skills are basic at best so I'm going to have to brush up on those.
