    the road to Knott End

As its been quite in this bit of the forum for a while I thought I would post about one my favourite local roads. This is ideal if you visit the North West and go to the bike meets at Knott End or Glasson Dock. The road is a minor country lane and the good bit is only about 3-4 miles, but with about 7 90degree corners in the space of about 2miles on a newly surfaced lane followed by a good wiggly bit I am surprised it is not a contender for the twistiest road. Its called Kilcrash Lane

To get there you need to be on the A6 between Preston and Lancaster in Garstang (where I live). Here you will find a Pub called the Flag (used to be the Chequered Flag - a good start eh.). At the Flag turn into Longmoor Lane (left if coming from Preston, right if from Lancaster). About 1 mile down here 3rd on the right is Kilcrash Lane (1st right is immediately you turn into Longmoor Lane, 2nd right a very minor no thru road).

Follow the lane to its Junction with the A586 at Pilling. A right here will take you towrds Knott End, a left towards Glasson Dock.

As the lane is crossing reclaimed "moss land" the lane is also raised above the fields giving clear views round most of the corners. Enjoy.

Another good road is the B5269 between Woodplumpton (just North of Preston) and ... well nowhere really. This is a longer lane also with numerous 90degree corners, but the surface is a bit iffy in places and most corners are fairly blind due to high hedges - ideal for an Adventure bike then .

To get to this turn west at the traffic lights about 1/2 mile north of M6/M55 junction - officially junction 1 of M55. Follow this to the end, then turn right. Just keep going 'til you cross an A-road else you will end up in Blackpool - and nobody wants to go to Blackpool.

    Kilcrash lane

    Very good description Austin.

Problem is, everyone will want a ride down it now and it's really MY road.

Only joking, I just love the corners and only a couple of pocket rockets ever seem to wander down that way which is even better. I hate it when they get under the feet!!!

I couldn't believe it when I saw the name of the road in daylight - Kilcrash - what an apt name.

There are quite a few small(white) roads around there that are lovely on the bike but fortunately too bumpy for most road bikes
