Bored, frustrated and stuck in Blackheath, SE London......

What I'd really like to find is some gentle 'green lanes' I could sneak off to and take my ageing Transalp over. Nothing too adventurous mind, but something where I can have a little smile to myself as I undulate over hillocks and other such trial-based stuff.
Anyone know anywhere near me at all? I'm so sick of having to assume everyone is going to try and kill me on London roads. In fact, the whole 'riding in London' thing is doing my head in. I really don't want to stop riding though.
Anyone got any ideas?

I'm only down the road. Let's go out one weekend and find some. I've seen some bikes on one of the walks I've done just into Kent. I'll try to work out where it was ad check the map.
I'm off to Newcastle on the bike this Sunday but maybe another weekend?
If we have another meet at Ryka's Lord Vader can take us on his off-road route again.

hi,
Sounds good. One of the other members (Yen, I think...) gave this link which looked interesting, apparently it goes from Surrey to Kent. I can't quite work out where it is though.

I am around most of the time. We had a baby last month so I'll need to give the missus a bit of notice.

Funnily enough I was back seeing my brother in Oxford and I went for a ride in a place called Shotover where I found a green lane. It was great and I got the bike nice and dirty. Looks much better like that!. Wet mud is quite nervewracking though and I had a few sphincter clenchers as I tried to steer and slow down in a rubbish-riding-panicky sort of way. I have never really been on anything except tarmac with the Transalp. It was really good fun though and I'm keen to find some more routes.

I'd be up for playing on some easy lanes too.

Last time I rode offroad was 17 years ago!!

For us in the deep south the nearest lanes/byways start around wrotham, all easy going but on a sunday always lots of walkers to give you disaproving looks.I'd be happy to share my limited knowledge if anyone wants to take a ride out one weekend.

Nice to resurrect this thread.
Should have project Zebra ready soon so some green lanes would be a good test ride for the old girl.

I ride out of Oakdene quite a lot and know a few of the routes (one is a 100 mile loop).

Try TRiK's forum for more info.

In answer to your post from aeons ago, I'm in Waterloo and have the same frustrations, but can blow them away (not that I go that fast) on the Pilgrims' Way from Otford, to Canterbury. It's got mud, grass, little lanes, (a spell of motorway), gravel, views, tree-lined avenues, good pubs and a sense of achievement.
