    Mont Chaberton

I was interested to see that Breeze mentions Chaberton .

I have always wanted to ride up to Chaberton but my understanding is that it has been closed to bikes for a number of years , and that the Italian or French authorities strictly enforce this - is this correct?

    Re: Riding in the Alps...

Did a bit of research on the net and found this , but I am not convinced of its acuracey

Until approximately 2003 the Chaberton was the highest point of the alps (crushed stone runway), startable with motor vehicles, and enjoyed with area drivers a legendary call. Since the distance is not no more maintained since years the condition very much worsened. Due to slope slips on 1,960 meters height is getting ahead also with light motorcycles only with largest efforts possibley

I've found some shots of a bike trip up the Jaffreau, gives you an idea of what to expect.
Thanks Breeze for all the info. Can't wait to get there...

Here is the email contact: carsanal@libero.it

His nickname on the Italian forum is Laurent; contact him to discuss any details, I told him about you guys coming down and he suggested this meetup with them.
Unfortunately I will not be with our group, have to pass this one!

Sorry about this, I always get confused with another name... must be old age!

The Chaberton is indeed closed and this is strictly enforced as you mentioned.
Furthermore it is definitely NOT Africa Twin territory; you need a single to get up there, no chance for our big twins!
