South Coast Points of Interest !

As a spurr of the moment thing, i may have a ride along the south coast soon - say between Eastbourne and Weymouth :

Are there any really good bike shops worth visiting ?

Parks worth stopping at for some piccies - (perhaps New Forest) ?????????

Other cool places to visit whilst i'm down that way ??????????????????

    Cheers

    Ant

Anton - lots if nice roads along the coast down here - I'll come back a bit later after I've had a good look at my maps.

Do you use a Garmin or are you paper based for your routes?

Plenty of awesome scenery in & around the New Forest - and if you need a stopover we're in Lymington, so your more than welcome to stay over if you fancy it

Thanks for the offer - very generous of you

As i say, it'll just be a spurr of the moment thing - just decide one night to go off for a long ride for the next day - but will have to get back home for baby sitting duty - but i could maybee give a bell when i'm in the area to say Hi

Ive got Garmin Slow pilot 111 - i'd have to manually input routes etc, as i have trouble linking it up to my pc since i changed to Vista

    Cheers.

the chain ferry across the bay at poole followed by a drink at the square and compass (very nice cider by rosie if you drink cider) is always fun.

bear in mind most of the nice bits in the new forest is 30mph or lower now, and they're pretty hot on it too. some of the local six fingered inbreeds take your number and complain to the cops when you go through their precious bijou villages 1mph over the limit. just in case you hit one of their pox ridden four legged walking catfood ****e machine horses and deprive them of a few tourist dollars.

one of these days as i ride past im gonna machete the ears off that fleabag donkey in beaulieu village if it doesnt get out of the way.

if you want a decent ride with some nice scenery and the odd fast section go inland a bit. i can vouch for the A272 from winchester, east to as far as you want, its a great road

    Anton

Hopefully will be up for meeting you, and certainly take you on some favourite routes, as Eastbourne and that part of the South Coast is my patch.

Not sure how you're arriving in Eastbourne, but here are some pointers.

Wessons (formerley the Ogri Cafe) in Horam, A267, just north of Eastbourne, on the country lane route from Tunbridge Wells. This is an EXCELLENT bike cafe/mecca.

Definite route you should consider is.

I think the newer road into E/B takes you to the East of the seafront. Take the seafront road WEST, and this will take you up towards Beachy Head through a series of hairpins through the woods. At the top take the first left towards Beachy Head (do not consider a Quadraophenia moment!). From Beachy Head, stay on that road to Birling Gap (stop and take a look at the view) then onto East Dean, where you should go left (A259). This will take you along the Downs to the beautiful Cuckmere Haven, which comes into view all of a sudden to the left, where a beautiful meandering river flows into the sea.

Cross the bridge, stay on the A259. Travel a couple of miles and swerve left onto Seaford seafront (there are small tea huts at the east and centre) then rejoin the A259 into Newhaven.

At the Newhaven one way (last exit), head inland towards Piddinghoe and Lewes (on the Lewes Road) and travel a few miles to a left turn marked Telscombe Village. Follow this road all the way to the village and out the other side, to Telscombe Tye. Here, it turns to a unmade track (I've ridden it) and takes you across the downs, and will bring you back out onto the A259 (go right) a few miles from Brighton.

I'll let Gnasher take over from there! You're not far from him, and I'm sure I saw his AT parked in a side street last time I passed along the seafront there.

    Bob
