    Re: Wet Roads: Fords

Here's a few i visited from that wetroads site Boboneleg introduced me to it cheers Bob

This is just outside the village of Llangammach wells too deep and fast flowing when i visited i want to revisit in the summer (if we get one) when the water levels are lower the footbridge next to it is knackered when i walked across i put my foot through one of the planks

The first one leads to this one which i did ride across was just above the footrests

And another i was following others on this ride so can't remember where this is as you can see by the quad it was deep he said he could feel it floating sideways in a few places

    Good selection in mid-Herts.

    Nice gentle start at
    1. Malting Lane, Much Hadham, take Kettle Street Lane to
    2. Gore Lane, Barwick Ford, then North along the brook and right, down the hill to
    3. ford next to the footbridge leading to Latchford, then
    4. ford in Latchford (where I ran into my own leg on an Alp), back up the hill, right and right again to
    5. cross the river South of Standon.

Back across the river on the bridge on the A120, right through Puckeridge, right to Braughing, NE out of Braughing to Furneux Pelham then right, left at Barleycroft End and ride

    6. Violets Lane, the longest ford in the country. It is actually a river. (this footage is heading from North to South, with the flow of the river - advisable after rain)

    Brilliant!

    Re: Wet Roads: Fords

I used to have a Freelander as a company car. I once braved a ford I knew well, but after heavy rain. I ignored the "Flood - Road Closed" sign.

I did all the right things - approached slowly, in a low gear with plenty of revs. It was a bit deeper than I expected, though.

The bow wave came over the bonnet and I could feel the force of the river pushing me sideways towards the edge of the paved bit. If I'd gone off the edge the water would have come over the roof!

I was very glad when we reached the other side. My daughter's comment: "Dad, you should've seen your face!"

Furneux Pelham. NW of Bishops' Stortford, Herts (and yes, that IS where the apostrophe should go).

I've seen it up to the petrol tank on a bike before now. In summer it's a gravel track with lots of puddles.

The first three pic's are of crossing the Nine Mile River on the "Old Marlborough Road",Bulford rifle range,Salisbury Plain.

The last couple are of the same river but on a byway just off the "Old
    Marlborough Road".
This one gets up to four feet deep in the winter (don't ask me how i know)
    .

    Cheers,
    Andy.

    Oh do behave!

Fewtrees negotiates the ford at Tilberthwaite, nr Langdale a few years ago. It's got a TRO on it now so you can't do this one any more (legally at any rate).
