    Re: Suggestions Good Rotes Scotland

Looks like the weather is going to be grim - particularly Saturday !!!!!

OK a few wee pointers -

When most people come to Scotland they miss out the South west and just blat up the motorway to Glasgow (if they are heading west) or Edinburgh (if they are going east).

Try do spend a while in the South West, some nice riding around the Newton Stewart / Glen Trool area.

When going to the west coast - go over the Erskine bridge and head for Loch Lomond - go up over the "rest and be thankful" to Inverary (nice eats at the George Hotel on the main street. Then go south to Lochgilphead and bear right to Kilmartin and up the coast road to Oban.

From Oban head north across the Connell Bridge and head for Glen Coe , try and fit in a ride up/down the Glen.

North to Fort William and then onwards through Spean Bridge to Invergarry , turning left for Kyle of Lochalsh driving down through Kintail

Cross to Skye if you have time , but failing that turn right to Loch Carron and then over the Bealach n ba (pass of the cattle) to Applecross , then up the coast to Shieldaig. After that, every road is pure joy.

    Hows that for starters?.
    2011 Triumph Tiger 800 - "Black Pussy" - MMMM Nice !!!
    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!

    Re: Suggestions Good Routes Scotland

Well my Brother and I completed the Scottish Tour 2008 "The Reckoning" and had an absolute blast, what with the torrential rain, gale force winds and micro climate snow on the road near Glencoe, hail stones and sleet over Applecross........... .

When I get a mo I will post up the route, briefly:
    Day 1 Harrogate - Duror
Day 2 Duror to Sligachan Skye
    Day 3 Sligachan to Applecross
Day 4 Applecross to Bridge of Cally
Day 5 Bridge of Cally to Harrogate

(Missed out South West as already done Dumfries etc , just wanted to Blat up to the Highlands)

Most butt clenching time was going from Skye to Applecross over the top, windy wet, getting dark, very cold and hailstones, tight switchback roads, very steep, sheer drops. Did not enjoy it.

Best Bit although very windy was from Duror up to Invergarry then across to Skye. Absolutely Fantastic scenery and roads.

The Vara XL1000VA-08 Abs was fantastic. never missed a beat My brother borrowed my 1998 Africa Twin as his Vara 1000 2005 was in the garage getting some repairs. The AT was brilliant too performed amazingly well.

    Can Highly recommend two places.
1 Tigh Bahn Bed and Breakfast in Duror , Cannot recommend it highly enough, we did dinner bed and nreakfast as we had along drive up from Harrogate amd everything was perfect. http://www.tighbhan.co.uk/ £47 dinner bed and brealfast.
2 Applecross Inn. Amazing hospitality , fantastic food, great rooms. Expensive but good. £50 Bed and Breakfast.
    3. Bridge of Cally Hotel was pretty good, nice rooms, good food, good beer but a little expensive.

    Cannot recommend
The Sligachan Hotel . Very Poor, not very good rooms, average food and beer. Too expensive for what you get. Stag night in Shouting and banging until 5am with no hotel staff taking any note.

Unfortunately due to the weather I have taken very few photos, just couldnt be bothered to get off and take a photo of torrential rain and get the bike blown over in the gale force winds. (Good Excuse to go back again if I can get another pass-out)

Was a bit dissapointed with the beer . seemed to be either MCEwans (Farty Bum) or Skye Brewery( Average) . Expected old Strangler, Withered Beagle or the like. So Glad to be home for a pint of Black Sheep.

That must be the best recommendation i have heard done a few of those roads with the truck, check out hungry macs chippie in Oban if it is still there, the truckstop cafe just south of newtonmore off the A9 used to be very good when i last went up there stay off A9 and use the tourist routes when you can if you go that way it is mostly the old A9 running along with the new one
