tour x or not tour x that is the question ?

    Hi,
Decided to retire my old skid lid and invest in a new one. Been looking at Arai tour x on ebay etc.

I only off road around 10% of my ride time and wondering how you guys rate the tour x. How is it on a long journey, how is it in side winds and is it really meant for touring tarmac or is it primarily meant for green lane touring.
I used to moto x and can see the obvious advantages in using a peak off road if you are following behind another rider.

So the question is ---- Is the tour x value for money if you're rarely off road or is it just a fashion statement.

Hope you can sort out my dilemma. Gotta say, the tour x looks ace !!!

    Cheers

I rode from Portsmouth to Colchester on sunday in some pretty gusty winds. I was on the naughty side of 70 . There was the odd occasion when the wind caught the peak and tried to rip my head off and failed.

I started riding on a naked bike (bandit) so im sort of used to it.

Most days no problem - i like the fact that you can have the visor down as well - great in the rain

As for the price - well whats your head worth Arai - a well trusted name, who do lots of r&d and testing. A high number of motorcyclist deaths are sadly due to head injury - so you should buy a decent lid.

Surely the first question is...does it fit your head?

HJC do the same thing for £100. Only out recently but Hien Gericke sell it.

Have a look at this thread I opted for a Marushin and after a month certainly glad I bought it. It is great for 1/3 of the price.

I've just ordered a Marushin too....opted for the Silver (of all things)

Quite a departure for me, I've always had dark grey or black lids.

Fed up with super noisy, crap in the wet, steamy uppy in the Winter Roof Boxer, and wanted to fit my TomTom and PMR headsets into a nice new (hopefully much quieter) home.

£116 delivered including a black and a clear visor from www.riderz.co.uk ...or ebay.

    differnt take.

I just got a BMW system 5 helmet.. and like the system 4 (which are going real cheep these days you can mix it up a bit and have a visor and goggle type arrangment for the dirt and for the road days switch it to a full road set up.. (i have not done it yet. or even got the other bits and pieces ).. but i can say the S5 is a very comfy helmet and rather quiet.. this is not a bmw site but one that explains it better then me...

I have the visor for my System 4 and its very annoying. It vibrates as you ride along.
