    Nolan Helmet/ flip lid

    Hello Folks,

Looking for some advise. I'm think of buying a new helmet. The helmet I am thinking of buy from Heine Gerick is the "NOLAN N102 CLASSIC N-COM WHITE " priced at £180. Has anyone used a "Nolan" helmet, if so, what did you think? It is a flip lid. Is there anything in particular I should look out for when buying a filp lid?

    Many thanks

    Billy

yeah, check that when its flipped up, you can see. I have a windguard on the chin of mine and cant see a thing when the lid's flipped up.

    Re: Nolan Helmet/ flip lid

    Hey Billy
Not sure about this lid. I've had one for a year. The strap and flipfront are great. Really clever mechanisms. The visor has a clear plastic insert to make it double-layered which seems to stop it misting up. However, this fell out after 4months and seems not to want to stay in any more. The thing also leaks which apparently can be prevented by putting vaseline above the top of the visor seal. It's quite noisy too. I think Nolan have tried to balance out the weight of the flip mechanism by shortening the side-on profile (ie the lid ends further up the back of your neck than others). Covering this with my hand (...as an experiment u understand) while riding makes it loads quieter. It may also be that it's a tad too large for my head (tho the best fit i could find)
Conclusion. Absolute genius for summer with earplugs but whether the vaseline trick works, the leak is a fault and I wouldn't recommend it if you have to ride in all weathers.
    Cheers, Steve

    Re: Nolan Helmet/ flip lid

I can recommend the BMW system 5.
It was voted as the second quietest lid by Ride magazine I seem to remember.

However it can leak like the Nolan which is very frustrating. Although it doesn't always do this.
I do find it quiet and a very good fit.

    Re: Nolan Helmet/ flip lid

I'm on my 2nd Nolan flip front. The 1st was a 1001 model, the current one in my cupboard is the N101. Both have served me well.
Agree with the noise thing mentioned in a previous post, but I always use earplugs. The Pin Lock insert, if worked loose, needs to be replaced. Whilst your at it, replace the external visor as well, so they both wear together (I think I paid less than £20 to replace both).
No problem with visibility when chin section is raised.
The N102 has an easier to use opening system (my youngest son has got the latest version) and I'll be looking to get another Nolan when my current one is worn-out (1st one was good for over 5 years of constant, daily use).

    Just my ramblings.

    Re: Nolan Helmet/ flip lid

I would recommend a Nolan flip no problems. I have a N101 model. I'm a flip lid convert having used a BMW system , a Caberg and now the Nolan.

Most flips are noisey and tend to be heavier than full face due to the hinge mechanism. But the advantages far outstrip the disadvantages IMHO.

    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!

    Re: Flippin' 'eck

I'm a flip covert as well. I've just bought a Shoei Multitech and it feels pretty good. It's light, quietish and even has the ACU sticker. In truth I don't know why I'm so suprised, in the early seventies all I wore was an open-face anyway.

I have a caberg which flips, easy to open, doesn;t block my view when open. Never leaked and the best bit of it all has to be the internal flip sunvisor so ideal for day or night usage.
