    Arai Tour X

    Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone could help with a problem I have with the Tour X.
I have wanted one of these lids for a couple of years, finally decided to treat myself last Xmas. Did all the usual showroom check for fit, comfort etc and was very impressed, I was replacing a Caberg Justimo flip front and particularly liked how well it fitted and how light it is.
Anyway; on the ride home with new lid on my eyes kept watering - they are sensitive but never this bad - Air just rushes down the inside of the lid and with the cold weather it really affects my eyes badly. Get home read manual, made all the adjustments to the airway switches to limit it as best possible and although there is an improvement my head still freezes and my eyes stream and are quite sore after even 25 miles. This is a real shame because everything else about the lid lives up to my expectations. I've now taken to wearing a balaclava all the time to keep the cold out and mountain bike glasses to protect my eyes.
Also it mists up a lot quicker that the Caberg, I've tried the good old washing up liguid and bought purpose made spray, the washing up liquid works better but only for maybe 50 miles which is my normal daily commute. On the second day it starts to mist again. So to some extent I need the airflow but not to the extent that my eyes are watering soo much I cant see and are stinging too.

Can you offer any suggestions on adjusting the airways or any cunning tricks that you may have used. I've thought of corking the air ways but only as a last resort.

The lid will be far better in the summer, but I ride most days and most weathers and need/want to use this lid rather than go back to the Caberg for the winter.
I miss the flip down visor in the Caberg, but that is all i will miss if I can overcome this problem.

    Thanks in advance,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,
    Similar problem's myself,
best I could do was close all vents on the top of the lid,and leave mouth vent open, close the visor down to the point where only your thumb will fit between the visor and the lid,I still have to adjust this amount from time to time to clear the visor

On the up side Iam told by a Dealership here that Arai have developed the pin lock system to fit the TourX and are bringing the pin lock system for sale this April along with a new range of Tour X Lids, been told that even if the lid design changes separate from the colour scheme that te visor's will be the same

    Here's hoping

I've bunged up the roof vents with disposable ear-plugs to keep a bit of heat in, (also keeps the wind noise down a bit as you can easily open the vents by accident and trying to close them again at 80 with gloves on is a very hit/miss affair!), and nothing I've tried has prevented the thing from misting up, I just ride with the visor on the first click open and wear a balaclava. But apparently there is a fog-city insert coming to a Heide Gerkin shop near you soon............

I use a respro foggy mask ( http://www.respro.com/products/racin...tv/foggy_mask/ ) and havn't had any fogging up problems since. It doesn't fit that great because the tour X sticks out more infront of the mouth than 'normal' helmets, and it needs re-aligning every couple of on and offs becuase it moves a bit.
Not sure about your eyes watering though, I don't have any problems with that at all, maybe I'm just odd

    Paul,

I have found the best things to do are:

    1. fit the rubber nose piece that fits into the rubber seal.-available from arai as a standard bit.

    2. when breathing in slow traffic it is best to breath out as if you were playing the flute.(i never have or evcer will) - but this makes the air disperse down the bottom

    3. ive closed shut the front air vent as i have my comms mic there - but this too makes it better

    4. in winter i use a bandanner across my nose/mouth - this helps keep my chin warm..

good luck and hope you come up with something..

    Hi,

Would'nt argue with it being me that's strange; just ask the wife

Perhaps my eyes are watering because of spending the most I ever have on a lid that I've lusted after for a couple of years and not being overjoyed with the riding experience.

I'll stuff some earplugs in the vents for the trip home tonight and get a nose guard/breath guard.

    Thanks for the suggestions,

    Paul

    Re: Arai Tour X

    Hi All,

I put my spare earplugs in the front vents and it made a significant difference even though I didn't bother with the balaclava or sunglasses.
Even though it was pretty cold at 5.30 on the way home and the top of my head got cold, the breeze past my eyes was reduces and the screen didn't mist up.
I'll keep playing with the vents and hope to be more comfortable with my purchase.
I've got to say; the lid is very comfortable, fits my head really well and the style is soo cool, shame about the teething problems and it seems very wrong to have to stuff dayglo earplugs in the vents to make it acceptable to ride with.

    Thanks for all the suggestions,

    Paul

the Tour X is a great lid and very comfy but it seems to be a character of this style of lid to be very draughty must say the only problem and grip ive had with mine is the misting up

mind you thats all irrelevant now as i dropped the lid and f@cked it so now ive got to save for another...not sure what to get though
