    Ear Plugs?????

Ok have just got myself a MX helmet for summer use. But I didn’t realise how loud the wind noise is so who wears ear plugs and what would you recommend? Is it worth buying 200 and use a pair each time I go out or should I opt for reusable plugs which I can just wash (if such things exist)?

I used to buy my earplugs in bags of 50 from a company called Sound Distribution and wore each pair for about a week. They also sell a keyring box to keep two pairs in. I'm running low so this time I'm off to the place that supplies my work safety gear to buy a big box of the earplugs I get on with (classic type I think they're called)

    Hi Grendel, try this link.

I don't think you'll end up with a quiet MX helmet though.

Just too much wind noise with the peak

I've been using re usable for the past 15 years.....they are most definately worth the investment. My originals came from GUYMARK UK in the West Mids http://www.guymark.com/ I think they still do them. Whatever you decide it'll be the best investment you will ever make bar your helmet.

There is no substitute to your hearing When deaf yes you may not be able to hear your wife anymore but remember she can still write it down

The only time I've ever used anything else was in the States and I had a pair of Shure sound isolating earphones for the mp3. I was well impressed.....they're not cheap but they are very, very good. They will be on my Xmas list

Can't recommend Ultimate Ear enough. Yes, they are expensive compared to disposable but they are really worth it. I'd tried for several years with disposable ones but they always get uncomfortable as they keep expanding when they're in your ears creating outwards pressure.

Been using the Ultimate Ear plugs for a couple of months now and they really are fantastic, they cut out all the noise and make riding a much more enjoyable experience.

I've got the earphones so can listen to my Ipod and have autocom communication too.

I've been using ACS for the past two years,
    http://www.hearingprotection.co.uk/m...protection.htm

got a set of biopact earplugs for normal riding and a set of these duocoms

http://www.hearingprotection.co.uk/m...ling-comms.htm for work. walkman and mobile phone quality is excellent.

I've always gone to the head office, now in Banbury, for the impressions to be taken, but that's more because I like the trip down. I know they've got dozens of reps around the country who'll do it nearer home.

Looking at the price of 88 quid for the biopacts it's good value to me for something that'll last five years, compared to buying foamies.

I always use the expanding disposables.Haven't had any problem with them, but I'm sure they won't suit everyone. Have noticed that some people 'wet' these plugs before inserting by licking them - not a good idea as it will cause all sorts of problems eventually either wet rot or bacterial infection!

    Re: Ear Plugs?????

I have ultimate ears, which as ear plugs and speakers are great, but I can't get a good set up with my autocom, I think the problem is the ears are too good for sound, because when I run them with my autocom, I pick up engine noise, I am running a supresser, but still i hear it, also I use a open face helmet, and sometimes the wind opens the mic which is loud in my ears. also this has only happened twice but the kenwood radio for bike to bike, beeps very loudly through the system, and if this happened with my ears in, it could cause permanent damage to my ears. so i only use them as blockers when I'm bike to bike, and use the auto com speakers in my helmet. and use the ears with my ipod when i'm alone.

I'm happily using 3M disposable foam (from a big box that I bought in a hardware shop) and 'cos I'm tight I wash them!
