    Re: Dual Sport Helmets

I bought the tour-X in small, not the right size for my head (gives me a blinding headache, it's for sale now). Loved the look of the helmet though...

Then bought a Hornet DS, great helmet, but gives me a headache too (not too small, just sits wrong above one ear, it will be for sale shortly).

Went back to my cheap (£100) HJC full face helmet, perfect fit, less noise.. I'm looking for an HJC FS-10 (full face with integrated sun visor) now...

Still love the DS look, but it's just uncomfortable...

    Re: Dual Sport Helmets

I bought a Hornet DS this week - stonking deal from Blackpool Honda too.

I have only worn it once so far. Wind Noise seems no worse than my XR1000 and I haven't tried with the chin curtian yet - so looks good on that front. The peak causes no turbulence or problems and I had a quick zap up to 120 to test this.

The only downside I would say is the visor/peak fixing is fiddly - held on on with plastic/nylon screws. To get the visor off involves undoing 5 screws, removing one clip, removing the peak, and removing the visor holders. I can't see the screws lasting long either - after just removing the visor once to fit the pinlock the threads felt slightly stretched when refitting. I am going to get a couple of spares to carry in my pocket.

Otherwise I really like it, but then my old XR1000 is 31/2 years old smelly, worn, flappy lining, and probably unsafe.

Buy one, you will love it.

Have a Caberg Trip (flip + internal dark visor). Noisy ,but comfortable.

I keep looking at the dual sports as an alternative, lots of others beside Arai & Shoei - Wulfsport, Lazer, HJC, Airoh, Marushin(?) .... probably some others out there? If you like the look why not try some of the others?

    Re: Dual Sport Helmets

I have an Airoh S4 and I like it, the peak has slots for the air to pass through and I have never felt any adverse reaction caused by the wind when riding. The only downside I found when it was new was that it steamed up pretty easily and in the rain you had to open the visor a shade to clear it, the downside of doing that of course is........it lets the water into the inside.

However..........since fitting a Pinlock insert designed for the Tour X 3 it has been transformed from a bit of a pain into what I think is a good helmet, last Sunday I drove the 60 odd miles home from Rothbury in the pi**ing rain with the visor firmly closed and not a hint of steaming up!

PS This picture was taken before I fitted the insert.

i have a caberg justissimo gt n luv it,works a treat on whatever style of bike im on,trialy, sports or chop.
quieter than my arai fface and has speakers builtin so i can hear that woman telling me to turn left or theres a 70 limit camera looming.
like the internal sun visor as well, very useful.
dont like that it siphons water down the inside of the visor when i have it open a millimeter ....

That looks quite nice, I've not seen one of those over here. Does it have a quick release visor?

I am afraid not Taking the visor off is a bit fiddly as you first have to unclip the plastic screw covers, then undo the two screws which also hold the bottom of the peak. Not a huge job, probably only 3 or 4 minutes if you have the right tool (a 5 pence coin is ideal).

Not as quick as my old FM helmet, but hey, I have all the time in the world...................I wish.

im a believer in getting the right thing for the job, if you ride on the road get a road helmet, if you ride off road get a mx lid.

ive got a shark evoline so i can ride with a fullface or open face, (to be honest since i got it i havent had the chinbar down!) but if i was going to go off road i would rather buy a £50 mx helmet and muller that, not a £200+ job!
