    Schuberth helmet question

Hi all, quick question, I've been looking for a new helmet and tried on a Schuberth C2 and couldn't believe how quiet it was! I couldn't hear the salesman's patter through it!
Anyone tried a Schuberth? I'm looking at the C2 or C3 or as I'm Scottish, the concept!
Right, back soon, I'm off to check my shortbread! Yes, I'm cooking again!

    Re: Schuberth helmet question

Wullie Young's in Elgin has a large C2 in silver, I tried it on last weekend and was really impressed. I'd prefer it in white but it's at the right price, £260. We'll see, the trip this summer has highlighted my need for new gear.
Quieter helmet, new trousers, jacket and boots needed! Oh, and tent, airbed, good grief! Where's all the money coming from? Beats me! Ha ha!

    Smile Re: Schuberth helmet question

I have a Schuberth C2, (flip up front) my previous flip front was a Veemar. The difference in noise level was very significant.

I was becoming increasingly disatisfied with the noise from the Veemar, I used foam earplugs then bought custom moulded earplugs to reduce the discomfort. They work well by reducing the intensity of the noise but it is still there, just attenuated. The C2 doesnt produce the noise in the first place so I have found myself reverting to no earplugs from time to time and not being unduly bothered.

What I have noticed is with the C2 visor up one stop for ventilation is that the visor vibrates from side to side a little. When there there is rain on it this blurrs vision.

There is what they call a city setting for the visor, it clicks forward on the pivots and allows air to circulate. This causes an increase in turbulence noise but it seems to be a higher frequency than the low tiresome drone the veemar produced.

I accept all flip front helmets are noiser because of the extra gaps that cause additional turbulence but I am prepared to accept this for the benifit of the flip front convinience.

I also have a Schuberth S1 (Carbon Fibre full face) that is wisper quiet and fits superbly well and is incredibly light, but I missed the flip front benifits so hence the C2.

The C2 is a very good helmet (as is the S1), I like the ventilation options. I have had to re fix one of the velcro dots that hold the removable liner as it moved. It has quite a large shell so is a tight squeze in some top boxes but I would have no hesitation in replacing like for like if I had to replace it.

The C2 I bought is white, I hoped it would run cooler than the black veemar, it is cooler but I dont know how nuch this is down to ventilation and how much is down to the white reflecting the heat and the black absorbing heat.

It seems very good in the rain, no problems with leaks even in some really torrential rain. I suffer some misting in rainy weather and intend trying a pinlock or fog city soon.

Another benifit of the white helmet is increased visivility. I have noticed a significant increase in MPT (miles per tosser/blind car driver) since using the white helmet. The MPT is further enhanced when I wear my hi vis wets!

P.S. Scuberth did swap the visor free of charge, apparantly there was a fault that caused the anti scratch surface to de laminate so all credit to them for after sales service.

The flip down dark inner visor is just ace, no more squinting or faffing with sunglasses etc.

    Anyway thats my threepenyworth.

PPS I dont work for Schuberth, I dont recieve any financial support from them but am willing to recieve any freebies they wish to donate

    Re: Schuberth helmet question

I tried a flip front Schuberth once and hated it - couldn't get it off my head fast enough. Just my opinion though - my head obviously wasn't shaped for that helmet.

IMHO whenever you buy a helmet though it is a lottery as to how noisy it will be as, until you try it on your bike, with your gear, sitting in your position, with/without pillion, you have absolutely no idea how noisy it will be. Any manfacturer claims as to noisyness is at best an estimate. The quietest helmet I have ever used or tried is my current one - a Shoei Hornet, yet by looking at it it should be the noisiest with a peak and other adornments.

I think Helmet makers have 2 big challenges - dealing with noise and making helmets lighter. Both are safety issues and I am surprised not addressed more.

    Re: Schuberth helmet question

Sorry Austin but I don't agree with your statement, I've owned many helmets and have certainly tried on plenty and NOTHING compares to the Schuberth I tried last weekend for quietness.
Everyone's got their opinion and that's mine. I take it the helmet was uncomfortable to you? Fair enough, it's opinions I'm looking for.
Traveller, I had a Vemar a few yrs ago, comfy enough when new, never misted up? Got uncomfortable after a year or two so moved on to a Caberg. It misted easily in the rain and was noisier. I've a cheap Nitro helmet just now but it's due replacement so just shopping around.

yep, uncomfortable wasn't the word for it. It was painful. Arai helmets are similar on my head. Sound wise the Schuberth was a snug fit on my ears and the world did go quiet, but I don't think that necessarily means the helmet will be quiet in use, I still think that depends on your bike, gear, riding position and so on, although possibly a guide.

    Re: Schuberth helmet question

Look at this Schuberth puppy for sale on ebay now. If it didn't fit my head shape and I had the money I would have my head reshaped to fit!!!!!!!!!!!

I know you only have one head which is 'reasonably' important but who in the world pays £999.99 retail price for one of these???????????

    Re: Schuberth helmet question

Sorry guys, I've never paid over £100 for a helmet before and feel quite queezy about breaking the three figure barrier! But this Schubert has wormed its way into my mind and I'm smitten! I'm not sold on the local dealers silver one though so the quest begins!
