Handy tip for removal of clutch drum nut

I tried finding an old sprocket - not luck. I went through my spanners and thanks to my late granddad whose tools I kept I had a 9/16th whitworth ring spanner.

Put it into gear and this turns the drive shaft but I had no way of locking it. A 9/16 Whitworth ring spanner fits the drive shaft nicely. Lock this against the tool bench/engine case (not the water pump housing) and it holds the engine internals nicely.

This was on an RD04 but I have no reason to think that other XLV/XRV etc engines would not also be able to use this.
When I grow up ..... yeah right!

Y'see, I could say "You can go fast, I can go anywhere, Africa Twin" But you buggers have 'em as well so it would sound pretty lame .... oops!

I busted a clutch basket on an XR250 by being clumsy and gave up.

Took it to my local garage and they span the nut of so fast (didn't even unstake it) with an air impact. I have since bought a Clarke 24V electric impact and for flywheels and clutch centers it's a breeze, you dont even have the hold the clutch or flywheel. The right tool for the job, would highly recommend.

+1 that. Absolute breeze with an impact tool.
