    Hello From Cheshunt

    Hello Thumper Fans,

I'm a born again biker of 9 years. I used to ride trail bikes as a kid (DT100 and DT250MX) in the 80's and have now gone back to one as a cheap, economical winter ride while I keep my R1 in the garage out of the salt ! I ride to work (in Hemel 25 miles away) every day. I bought an XJR1300SP Jap import brand new out of the crate in '99 when I first passed my test. I was knocked off in 2004 and the bike totalled (and nearly me too !). The insurance paid for a 6 month old 2004 R1. I still have this and use it every day for work. I love the thing.

The credit crunch gave me an excuse to get an economical, tough, blast from the past. The NX650 is great fun. Bought it off Ebay for good money. Not a lot wrong with it. I serviced it immediately and just need to straighten the left exhaust can as it sits offset towards the wheel.

It is to be used as a tough winter bike to keep the R1 out of the winter salt and muck. Loving it so far. I have a varied ride through main roads, lanes, woods, A414 and M10 and it deals with all very well. It will push 90 if asked and I find the little fairing fine. I don't think it is useless as some say ? The XJR with no fairing seemd far 'windier' from what I can remember. All in all, great fun.

This looks like a good site and I'm sure I can learn plenty.

    Cheers all.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
    Nice looking bike.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Thanks for the welcome. Yup, the Dom's good fun, not quite as sharp as the R1 though ! Totally different ride (obviously.... I suppose !)

I'm on the other side of the A10. I live on the Hotspur Wood estate (The old Spurs training ground). And ....yes I am a Spurs fan ... and no I would rather not talk about it ... Thanks for the welcome.

Thumbs up Re: Hello From Cheshunt

    Thanks mate,

I could have very easily been in the same place as you. I bought the bike off ebay and if anything, yours looks in better nick (except for the piston of course !).

I took a chance, but the fellah I bought it off did sound genuine, and so far so good, although it does need a few bits. It's in my mates garage at the moment having the left side exhaust straightened up (It's all out of bonk and touches the tyre if you overdo it ! Not good ..)

I must admit, The kids have Big Cat Diary on the TV at the moment and it seems to be bringing out the predator in me ! ie ..... if you do decide the jobs too much and your Dommi becomes an injured slow Wildebeast ... I think I might a quick Cheetah who'd have the juicy bits !

And proper respect to anybody who owns a British bike. We all should.
