    sw-motech crashbars

Just fitted a set of motech bars to ny XL700 but the RH fitting lug has zero clearance between it and the exhaust downpipe when torqued up. If used I can imagine considerable friction and maybe overtime a hole developing. The only way round it (as far as I can see) it to totally remove the original triangular plate that is attached to the frame and engine and this will give some clearance, but I guess will slightly degrade the stabilty of the engine in the frame.

    Any one had similar problems.

    Welcome steve

i don't have a 700, but have you thought about fixing it between the plate and frame, with spacers under the other holes in the plate to level things up and keep the engine solidly mounted.

Tried to do when I started to have snags but the design on the original triangular plate does not allow it to move far enough forward to align with the drillings in the frame. The only solution I can think of is tapered washers whereby if it is angled i reckon it will give about 0.125 thou clearance. But it will be a bit of a lash up and I am not keen on doing it.

If we are talking only thou's clearance i would think the bars have not been fabricated correctly.
I would be asking for a replacement from the supplier.
