    Hi from Oz

Bought my '98 AT new in UK (grey import), brought it home to Oz (NSW near Newcastle) a few years later. Still love it about 95,000km later. A bit older, now retired, like to ride with a couple of TA riders and the odd GS. The R1200GS is still selling like hot cakes down here.
As you would all know the AT is an orphan, Honda never having launched it in Australia. There are around a dozen private imports here I believe. I get my AT specific parts from Singapore or New Zealand. My user name results from my coming together with one of these animals en route to Phillip Is a few years ago! Cheers.

Hello and welcome to the forum, Roo.

Hope that you find the site useful. Don't mind the mad ones - we try to keep their medication up to date........

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

    Re: Hi from Oz

    G'day Roo,

I'm planning to move to Oz this autumn (Hobart area) and would like to bring my AT along. Seems it was never sold in Oz, so any tips/advice on importing? Its a 2003 RD07a, 50k miles, UK model. Does speedo in mph cause any legal probs? What about spares availability?

I will probably crate it and ship it out with my tools and some spare bits. If there are any Aussie owners who need spares from the UK, I may be able to bring them along.

I can't believe Honda never sold this bike in Oz. I spent 2 years traveling round there in a Landcruiser Troopy, and the AT would have been the perfect 2-wheeled alternative. If I am wrong about this and it was sold, please let me know.

    Cheers,

    Tim

    Welcome to the forum, Roo.
Pictures of you lovely bike would be needed to appease us less fortunate.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

    G'day Roo, and welcome...

Tim: the import in to Aus is not too hard but you must get permission before you go.
The things you must have is:
-you have owned the bike for longer then 1 year (and can prove it)
-you are a legal resident of Aus (having a residency visa)

other then that it is just paper work and $50
you will have to pay tax on the bike too

Finally when you ship it make sure it is "never used" clean or else there can be big trouble or at least big £££ fines.

Xander: many thanks for the link and info, saved me a lot of time.

Suds750: I can't apply to import bike til Aug, as I will have owned it for a year by then. If yes, would be happy to swap speedos. Will contact you then.

Hi Roo, good to see a classic bike here in Oz. I ride a Transalp 700. There is going to be a Honda V-Twin get together early next year. Keep an eye on this link, Oz Honda V-twin Adventure bike riders thread - Page 35 - ADVrider Happy trails. Fletch.
