    My new Toy XLV 650

Hi all, charlie here from Australia.
I've just joined this site in the hope to get info about the 650 Transalp.
My main reason for joining is that I’ve also got a TDM 900 which I purchased 1 ½ yrs ago to go on dirt roads heer in Australia.
7mths ago I did a trip to the NT with a group of mates.
We did around 8,000km in 2 ½ weeks with around 3,000 of it dirt in parts of the desert (Sand). Before I left for the trip I found it very hard to get tyres for the TDM (1 set available & have to run a rear on the front at that) & also due to the Motor having little protection. I’ve come to the conclusion that I need a different bike for this type of riding.
The TDM is a fantastic fun bike with plenty of power, not as much as my Blackbird had but fun (once you put sports Mufflers on it , sound awesome).
This is where the 650 Transalp comes in, a fellow friend has one & I found the more I rode it the better I liked it.
    So I now have one.
Anyway long story short, I’m going to do some things to my bike .
Once I can get on my mates Dyno.
    Thing I’m looking at doing:
    Sports Muffler ( Have done)
Possibly remove collector box or improve flow inside.
    Larger Header pipes
This is not only for better performance, but to also see what type of note I can get (V Twin).
So I’m hoping that I can also get info from the XRV site from other members.
So has anyone out there done the Mods that I'm talking about with dyno proof of each mod?

    Hi Charlie & welcome.

Try using the search facility on the site for TA 650 mods.
I know that airbox (different filters plus drilling air holes into the airbaox) and exhaust (differrent silencers (back box) and removel of the sub chamber ) mods have been done by many that use or have used this site.
The other easy to do mod is re- gearing by changing sprocket sizes. Most on here will agree that using the OEM front sprocket helps reduce out-put shaft wear, so changing the number of teeth on your rear sprocket is the way to go and will give you some suprising gearing changes.

Enjoy your new bike and ride safe.

NB - pictures of all ride outs into nice sunny deserts are mandatory

Hello and welcome to the forum.
If you post in the Transalp section, you will get more response form people who do not visit here.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE
