    1st timer.

    Hi,

Just wanted to say hello to everyone before I start to pick your brains. Although Ive been viewing the site for sometime Ive never posted anything on here before.
Ive got a 04 plated Varadero which Ive had for about 4 years it was an ex demo bike that I picked up from the dealer with 80 miles on the clock. Thought I'd got the bargin of the century until I realised that it was a V2 and not a real 04 bike. Never mind I really enjoy riding her.
She's been my main transport for the last couple of years and hasn't really missed a beat until recently.
This is where you guys come in....I'm in need of a new fuel pump and someone has said that there is a link on the site to somewhere that sells reconditioned units. Anyone any knowledge????
If not any other ideas for a cheap fix the main dealers are asking £120 plus for a new unit.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
THIS Is used on most hondas as a replacement for the OEM part and works well.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Welcome Pitbull. Curiously I don't see many compaints about the fuel pump on the Vara, though any component can fail obviously. Are you sure the problem is not caused by a blocked breather? You should be able to tell by the sound of air rushing in when you open the filler cap.

Thanks DW for the thought, I think Ive checked all the bits that I can your suggestion being one of them. I stripped all I could on the pump and cleaned all the contacts. Once reasembled I tried to get some fuel flowing but after a couple of 'prods' on the starter found the pump to be very hot. I thought that there was a bearing or something seized in the body which I of course cant get at.
Would be greatful for any other ideas though. The company 'stumpy' advised are off on their annual bike ride and not back until the 11th May. Need to get back on two wheels soon and test the camping kit. Fingers crossed for the weather.
