    UK Insurance on Spanish Bike

My mate is in the process of returning to the UK after working in Spain for 3 yrs. He bought an AT out there and its taxed & insured in Spain. He's now in the UK for a period (theoritically on holiday). His spanish insurance runs out in next few days but he'd like to continue ride the bike until he knows whether he is here for good or not. He can't reinsure in Spain as he's given up his address there. Can he insure the bike here?

I don't see why not. Not sure exactly what is required, but a postal address would be one thing.

I bought my TA in Ballymena and insured it on its original number plate, then just informed the insurers of the new registration when I had "imported" it into the Republic (with Carole Nash). Not the same as your mate, admittedly, but if he's staying I would think that the bike needs re-registering.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Yes he can. In fact if you go abroad on your bike and stay in one country, you are supposed to insure it locally after a fixed period (I think about one month), otherwise the insurance becomes invalid.
