This is true for individuals. For company's the law on recording calls is different. Companies may record calls for number of purposes and they do not have to warn you each and every time that they will do so. A general warning, say on their website, is enough.

I have had BT helpdesk people get shirty with me for recording them but I have every right to. They are providing a business service to a business. I cam calling from a business telephone line and I warn on my websites that all calls may be recorded.

"unless you have let them know you are recording the call for that purpose and get their agreement."

What would the correct way to word it be? A statement that you are recording the call or to ask them permission to record the call? Basically, can they disagree with you recording the phone call and legally ask you to stop before they go any further?

Re: Bennetts insurance rip off scam

Bennetts can be beaten

I’ve managed to get a full refund out of bennetts after spending a large amount of time on the phone and internet. They wont make it easy for you but hear are some tips.

You should receive your renewal reminder at least 21 days before your policy is due for renewal.

You are allowed a 21 day cooling of period, however they are entitled to charge you a cancellation fee provided they can prove that you received your renewal reminder.

Be polite but also tell them that you may contact the Financial ombudsman burial and the FSA.

If you’ve had you policy for longer than the 21 day cooling of period then you can copy your new certificate of insurance (assuming you renewed with someone else) and send it to your provider as the new policy will invalidate your old one but they can still charge a cancellation fee.

This is advice accumulated from this any other forums, so thanks to the original posters and anyone with positive comments.

p.s. if you go onto google and type: (“automatic renewal” insurance law) the first webpage that comes up is about bennetts, show’s how prolific bennetts really is.

Re: Bennetts insurance rip off scam

Bennets are a complete nightmare and I have done with them today. I am changing bike and they can't offer me a competitive quote for my new bike. Fair enough, my insurance is only 6 months old so I will cancel it and use the refund against my new policy? Oh no sir say Bennets you aren't entitled to a refund once you have paid off all the ridiculous charges that they dream up.
A complete and total rip off and I will never use these conning b*stards again. The sooner all bikers become aware of what a bunch of rip off merchants they are the sooner they will go bust and we can all be treated fairly.
Rant over, that feels better now.

Money talks!

Hopefully, enough people will read this (as well as the insurer/s mentioned) and it will make them think twice about even enquiring about insurance with these companies.

Let's face it, we all need the security of insurance, but companies using underhand tactics are perhaps showing their true colours, and make you wonder how intrested they would be when you have to make a claim.

So far, I have been with the same insurers for some time, as they have kept me happy so far, and their prices have remained competitive.
Companies that hide all manner of stuff in the small print are being devious in my opinion, and I ALWAYS look for straight, clear and concise policy wording.

Carole Nash for my bikes (nobody else could come close to their multi-bike policy)

and

Adrian Flux for my old american truck (very competitive and easy to deal with)

Re: Bennetts insurance rip off scam

My daughter insured her first bike with Bennetts, the insurance premium was paid using my card. Tha bike was stolen 9 months into the policy. She bought the bike with her own savings and was distraught.

Bennetts offered a derisory figure in settlement of the claim. Even after asking them to point us in the direction of a similar bike for sale at the offer price they hardly budged. Not impressed.

Bought a replacement bike, insured it with Carole Nash. The Bennetts policy ended when they paid out the theft claim.

Three monts later an insurance certificate for the stolen bike dropped through the letterbox, my card had been debited to insure a bike that had been stolen three months previously!

Had to get really formal to sort the problem out. I formed the view there and then that Bennetts were con merchants and vowed never to go near them again.

Re: Bennetts insurance rip off scam

Never use them again. And it should NOT be normal policy 'in the industry'. Send a reminder one month in advance of renewal. One s**tbag should not mean the rest follow. I am pig sick of t*ss** companies taking the p*ss!...........can u tell this gets on my wick??

Re: Bennetts insurance rip off scam

Bennetts have an auto-renew policy...that's in the small print.

Once I heard about it...and that you can opt out of it,I rang them and told them so.They said that the bike would not be insured if it went over the renewal date,so I replied that that was my concern and not theirs.

Some people have said that the majority of insurance companies send out a renewal reminder a good few weeks before the due date, but I know how easily that notice can be set to one side to be dealt with, only to forget, what with everything else in life that needs dealing with.
