advise needed from knowledgeable insurance boffs

    hi all,

well its that time of year [renewal] and having [a] checked me cover regards extras [b] found I GET bloody all [£100 max] from Churchill aka Equity Red Star.

so beofre I go off on me travels [basically anywhere with all me stuff] value about £1000 total you know it all adds up.

sat nav, camera, heated grips, crash bars,panniers/topbox not to mention camping stuff and bike clothes

so If I change to another company before me old policy runs out and I have to claim on the new policy that should be no problem as I read somewhere stating you cant claim on 2 policys together , otherwise the claim/insured risk is halfed.

Thinking of Carole nash as the have a good reputation and high accessories cover, just waiting for conformation on what exactly they do cover- in writing so to speak so they cant riggle out later

    thanks all.

ps: Churchill sucks on customer service

Not a knowledgable insurance buff, but a bloke from bikesure is on the forums and he sorted me out with some cover inc. accessories at a surprisingly good price

I have all my bikes insured through AQuote on the same policy less than £200 FC with norwich union i think. They gave me breakdown cover legal ins, ride any bike, £1000 of undeclared accessories cover and insured all the extra's on my Varadero. If the premium stays within a few quid of last years i will stay with them this year

Not sure if that's actually an insult, haha.

You can not have two policies running for the same risk. In other words you would have to cancel the existing policy if a new policy is arranged. Is there a reason for you wanting to leave the existing policy in force?

    Cheers,

    Phil

I am with Bikesure (1.5 years).. And adrian Flux with the car (4x4) 8 years. and can recommend them, both.

But I have to say its refreshing that Bikesure (Phil) is active on this forum giving advice etc.. especially with some of the in depth posts he has made.

    Cheers, Buddy.

I can't stress enough that I am not on here to squeeze every last penny out of you. If you don't have a policy with Adrian Flux / Bikesure and have no intentions of having a policy with us, that is not a problem. I will still try and answer your questions and help you whenever I can.

I can not guarantee that our quote will be the one that you proceed with, but I promise that we will give it our best shot.

    Take care all,

    Phil

Re: advise needed from knowledgeable insurance boffs

    hi phil,
sent you a email direct to bike sure yesterday , dont know if you recieved it?

But basically the info I am after and everybody else cant give me but I feel is very important

On motorcycle insurance they all say "yes sir how much accessory cover do you want" I know we have to pay something to get something.

But say eg: you have insured panniers and sat nav etc and camping gear on bike, some low life or your own fault it gets trashed. What percentage of the aggreed cover do you get paid out for the items, as I understand it you get a percentage of the items price less age/depreceasion. [what percentages are we talking about 25% or 75%]

do you need reciepts for the original item to prove what you paid for it?

It aint worth paying a extra £80 for policy and then have to pay £200 excess for a claim not to mention loss noclaims bonus only to get back say £200 for damage to panniers.

I also [correct me if wrong] that If bike is dropped and sat nav broken ,panniers trashed including contents is this classed as one claim or is each item seperate?

Our heated grips and crashbars when fitted extras but attached to bike classed as fixtures and fittings or extras.

I know this may sound longwinded but having recently [3 years ago] been sticked up by "Bennets" over a foreigh accident I dont what to be out pocket again.

    Russ,

Apologies for the delay in responding.

You really would need to check the particular policy terms. I would not expect camping gear to normally be covered though. It’s usually items that are permanently attached so sat navs are not normally covered. We do have a policy that will cover up to £10,000 worth of accessories and settles the claim based on wear and tear basis so depends on the age and condition of the item.

It is strongly advised to keep all your receipt and if possible photgraphs too.

If there is a single incident that includes damage to a number of indemnifiable items, it will be classed as a single claim with a single excess.

Any additions, alterations or modifications after manufacture are classed as modifications or accessories and must be advised to the insurer. However you will not necessarily be charged an additional premium.

    Hope this helps.

    Phil
