    Compare sites oddity....

On sunday i went onto mcn to compare some insurance companies and the cheapest i got was £920 fullly comp from mce

todayyy i go onto Tesco compare and the cheapest quote i got was £788 from mce again for fully comp!!

I dont understand how they cn offer me one price one day, then £150 cheaper 4 days later???

bloody bank balance nazis, i gotta say i cant wait till im older and slightly greyer to get cheaper insurance i dont understand how they expect us young whipper snappers on the road with extortionate prices!!!

Well done, me thinks MCN may be getting a hefty commission on this. You now know it's an unregulated minefield where the buyer has to keep his wits about him. You can always haggle too, they're trying to get as much from you as possible. If they quoted me that amount it would be a firm 'how much' but because they are dealing with an older punter they would have the attitude that he simply would not pay that much. OK it is down to risk and we accept that new riders/drivers can represent a greater one but I'm not convinced that the difference should be so great. Irrespective of age you are not likely to deliberately chuck yourself at street furniture, other cars, trees etc because it bloody hurts!.

when I changed my bike the other week Swinton upped my policy from £115 to £600, I did pay it as I only have a couple of months to go and I was only paying part of the premium for the remaining time.

when I got home with the bike I ran a few quotes off and guess what Swinton will insure it for around £200.

I put a thread up last week about my renewal prices and the phoning around bit, unfortunatly we have to realise that we had a winter were people were hitting anything in there line of sight and someones got to pay for all that work and we know it won't be the insurance firms. I do agree that the way they work is nothing short of a con and they are a law unto themselves. I've found price comparison site a nightmare aswell so i never use them anymore Tesco compare or tesco finance/insurance did me a quote for my car when that needed renewing and that was a nightmare they even wanted tesco clubcard number before they would quote when did eventually get the quote it was £1900 which was a bit different from the £350 from a local firm Adrian Flux 4x4 were cheap when i took the policy out with them the renewal was well over double so they didn't get my business especially when i told them what i was quoted locally and the reply on the phone was " Oh were not going to make much commision on this one" they did beat the price of my local firm by £1 when they requoted and said "so are you going to stay with us now" and i said " no you tried to rip me of once i'll pay the extra quid to my local firm"

I shopped around after a while and came to decide yesterday and went with motorcyle direct instead of mce because of mce's horrible reputation!!! I did pay about 80 more with mdirect but I got breakdown cover england and europe included!

However the £900 insurance bill is still £899.50 more than I wanted to pay but hey such is life and atleast I'm on the road now!

Well most folks would have given up at that price, but horrendous as it is you will soon look upon it as good value for money. Once you're out and about the pain of the premium will soon be forgotten. Look upon it on a weekly basis and it's almost bearable. Best thing to do is make it value for money and get out as often as you can. Ride well & stay safe.
