KLX300 any good?

Hi, first post and all that.
I've decided to scratch the trailie itch after tooooooooo many years without one, and it's all changed whilst I slumbered.
A pal at work has a 2003?? KLX300 for sale with about 2K miles on the clock and I'm very tempted, but an entry on a TRF website suggests fragile engines, although I've not found any other references to this.
So, in the opinion of the panel, what's the real truth please?

Don't know much about the KLX, doesn't seem many around so spare parts could be thin on the ground. Depending on budget an XR or DRZ maybe worth considering, lots of those about.

I've had one for the last few months, now replaced with an XR250 (with leccy boot!). So, have a KLX300 up for grabs - 2001 Y reg. MOT 'til 15/09/09, taxed 'til 31/08/09.
