Can't really say much about the KLX250 but my mates dad has just bought a brand new KLX450 and both say that the 450 is way too much to handle and that he would have been better off buying the 250. The 450 will wheelie in 3rd and 4th

Can't help with the bike info, but I did investigate buying a bike in Thailand a couple of years back -missed out on an @ at the last moment. Maybe you're up to speed on this but the 'green book' situation is a bit complicated. To register as the owner of a vehicle you need a permanent address and someoneto witness that you live there. Watch out for 'recycled' green books. You might want to check out GT riders: http://www.gt-rider.com

They have a lot of useful info.
Which part of Thailand will you be in?

All over really, but last trip spent some time in Buriram and then north, one night north of Udon before crossing into Laos. Rented xr250 from Jules in Vientianne and rode to Luang Prabang and back. Highly recommended

This is one awesome bike for the money, it preforms brilliantly on-road and is amazing off road!

My only complaint is the seat is a bit narrow for long distances and you will need to derestric it to unlock the fun. Derestricting is easy and I have no idea why Kawazaki restrict them in the first place.

I would also wind the pre-load up as far as possible and tweek the rebound and damping screw on the rear suspension. (Unsless you're short in the leg)

Once the above mods have been made you really will have a great fun bike that is almost fully loaded with Didital Dash (inc. Rev counter - you don't get one of those on the WR), Fuel injection, Pillion Foot rests, Front fork protectors, and the list goes on. This really is a dual purpose bike that is really good on road and off!!

Thanks for all your replies back in Thailand now and just got the Klx20 its the only real option in Thailand at the moment as itsade.here so.its.a.reasonable price feels nice and light to ride needs the restriction removed but trays about it really let the fun begin 100s of miles of off road tracks where I'm staying
