Well it was another stinking day for the parade, but it got me thinking - why not have an XRV The Longest Day entry in next years show.
So with that in mind Ive emailed the pagent organiser.
I'll keep the board posed.

Caffrey - The greatest dog in the world.
Ok, I doubt this will be happening.
They want £4300 to get a slot.
The TLD account is currently showing 2 buttons, a chocolate coin, and half a toy soldier.
Oh well, it was just an idea![]()
1997 Jag 3.2 Exec (jangly jangly!); two bicycles; 2001 XL 650 V-1 which is ready for anything, cuts through traffic like a hot knife through butter and just gets better and betterand a low mileage Pan European ST1100
My Good Mr. Squire - they want US to pay THEM £4,300 to ride around in the parade. We can also not take up a space larger than the length of one, count them, one, articulated lorry.
The moneys raised goes to admin, associated costs, then what's left over goes to the Lord Mayors 2 Charidees.
BUT, that £4,300 does include a packed lunch for the participants.
So, not bad really.

On this point - we 'should' get a stand at some winter bike shows, promoting the event for entries and collecting for the charrrity.
From my point of view..this is an organised event in much the same light as a MCi Tour...you just turn up and ride and some other poor unsuspecting eejits run it all (oops...thats you lot isnt it?).
I reckon theres room to discuss a set price entry matched with sponsorship close to the same value...or an inflated entry including a donation with the option to collect.
Now that you can sell at a bike show like the MCN in the Excel and the BMF for example. Theyd still charge for a spot (maybe) but we could design it commercially to pay for these at the benefit of additional numbers/funds collected.
Smaller events like the Ace cafe one, Touratech etc could also be good value too.
Its all about getting something we can promote with a value whilst keeping the core principles alive.
TA700 2010 - Givi full set, Centre Stand, Scotoiller with LubeTube, Honda Tall Screen, Givi Crashbars, OEM Heated Grips, Fenda Extenda, Bar Risers, SSteel Spokes, Arrow Race-Tech DarkLine Exhaust, even bigger smile!!
TLD 2010 - 600 miles, 18 hours travelling, 4 hours sleep and no pint of guinness!! Must go back for that....
Doesn't that go against one of the main ideas behind the ride? raise sponsorship if you want, but theirs no obligation to do so, the event is an event for it's own sake, charity fund raising is an added bonus.
If you start requiring a figure to be raised for charity, or adding a bit on to the already high costs involved then I can see it will change the whole dynamic of the event, it will then become a business rather than a not for profit and then Jenna will have a point!!!
(I may have missed the point entirely as usual, but thats what it sounded like to me)
Axe.
