TLD 2011 What Ride will we do - part 2!

Right then - nothing like a little bit of good old xrv democracy, followed by a revolt

It appears that there is a sense of unhappiness with the length of time the poll was allowed to run for the route/ride we do next year.

There's a feeling there wasnt enough time allowed for proper discussion.

Therefore, having discussed this with the only other committee member available to me, Ive now set up a new thread and poll based on the most popular options of the last poll when the poll closed, having been able to give due time and consideration to the event.

The ride needs to be challenging, doable for MOST riders, and capture the publics imagination so it will draw in riders and sponsorship.

The very sound of the ride should envoke a feeling of ''bloody hell'' but at the same time not be such that the vast majority of riders will be put off.

Other things to consider I think, are what will the total cost of the ride be, if its excessive it will definately put people off, and how much time will the ride take - if people end up needing to take a lot of time off work to do the ride and recover that's gonna put a lot of people off too.

But then it has to be in the spirit of The Longest Day - which is xrv's own charity fund raising event.

Lots to think about and discuss.

We will simply never get a ride that pleases everyone. But what we do end up with should be imaginative, challenging, and be inspirational enough to attract sponsorship and riders.

The poll will run until the end of September. Plenty of time to discuss it from every angle.

Fair comment. I think there was some discussion going on as to what 5 peaks it should be so as to avoid ferries. Maybe that can be thrashed out in more detail here? Midwizz got involved in that one - if he's working on a route I just know it will be ''special'' lol.

I also think that as we know the charity we are going to support - MAWF - then we should try and do something that can be easily asscioated with that charity. It'll help with fund raising etc ....

Yes, a revolt about not having enough time to make a proper decision and the polls closing for next years ride before this years ride was even done.

I am covered in bruises !!!!!!

I checked back - the discussions started in May and the voting options were left up for 18 days till the start if this years ride.

Some felt this was too rushed, and there was not enough time to really properly consider all the angles to the ride, and the route and all permeations thereof.

On reflection, I think it was probably fair comment.

There is no great rush to decide next years ride, especially before this years ride was even completed.

If we know what we're doing by september that gives us tons of time still to sort a route.

But people will feel theyve had a really good proper chance to consider everything before voting rather than feeling rushed into it.

People have longer to consider and discuss the criteria that the route needs to hit - wow factor, makes the public go bloody hell, imaginative, challenging, doable, gets the balance right between being too hardcore where there'll only be a handful of riders turn up, too expensive which will put most people off or too easy where we wont get public support or sponsorship.

People need to remember when we say the name of the ride, it must want to make people join us, admire us, feel sorry for us and/or give us money!!

With Phil in Ireland, Sharrie and Boris in Belgium, Nick and Ash in Germany and GOG not answering his phone, I was left with one other person to run it past before a lynching - so more time was given to discuss, debate, etc before making the final decision.

Just trying to make everyone happy and satisfied they had a fair crack at it - not possible I know.

The least popular were removed, highlighted the most popular, and an opportunity for people over the next month or two to come up with the blinder we've missed so far.

    Good point.

There's a MAW office in Paris - wouldnt it be good to have a send off from a load of families and kids interested in bikes at the EyeFull tower and have a group of families and kids interested in bikes to meet us at Blackpool.

Take a load of kids that MAWF work with that would love a ride on a bike pillion around the Chance Elisa - head for the tunnel, meet a load of kids at the Blackpool tower, give them a pillion around the ... er...... yeah.

Just thinking about what UKTiffy said.

    Tom

Now that people who attended this years ride have returned mostly they will have a chance to reflect on the size of the proposed challanges

Some may have voted and now might have a different opinion

This year's routes took longer than Google had predicted resulting in the timings people got to certain points / missed ferries etc and not arriving by sunset.

I had to abandon the chance of a few hours sleep at Dunquin to turn around straight away thus ensuring we made it back for the booked ferry at Rosslare

You've made the right decision to open this up

02 RD07a RWB, Powerbronze tall screen, Remus Grand Prix, TT crash bars, TT pannier frame, Zega style panniers, Alpos top box,TT bar risers, TT headlamp guard, Heated grips, mainstand, Heidenau K60s for road and light offroad, TKC80s for the dirty stuff, Scottoiler, Autocomm, TT Zumo mount, Zumo 550 and most of all A BIG GRIN !!! Oh, and a very nice RD04 HRC coloured Marathon Replica
