I'm confused by all this. Are we leaving at midday on the longest day and finishing the following day? Or are we doing the whole thing on the longest day.
I tend to be a sleep at night person, so this is starting to bother me.

For me, the midday start defies the point of "The Longest Day". I see the reasoning behind it, but I'm with Whealie – I sleep at night, and the thought of riding the dullest motorways sections through the night isn't going to sit well with me.

I'm still advocating an early start around 4am, which means pretty much riding the whole thing in daylight (the whole point of doing it on the day we are) and finishing between 8pm and Midnight approx. I take on board the threat of prancing early morning deer, but for me they present less of a danger than nodding off on the M5 at 3am.

I know this throws up a problem of having our departure and arrivals witnessed, but surely those are far from insurmountable problems for a resourceful bunch like us. I'm sure we've probably even got Forum members in the relevant localities who wouldn't mind losing a couple of hours sleep to help us out for Charity - I know I'd happily do it if the tables were turned.

It'd be great to set off en-masse, but there's nothing to stop us doing it in a couple of stages if people feel that strongly about it.

    Hi Everyone
I have been following this thread for some time now and would love to have a go at this event with you all(not to gatecrash or anything as i am a newbie ) but it seems like to have two heats would seem to solve the dilemma of the start times it would at least ease any congestion at filling stations at the start of the journey at least, those of us (like myself) who would like to set off at first light and make the most of the extended daylight and try to get as far down the country while it is still light (i dont think all the way is a realistic achievement) but most of the way I'm sure. and those who would prefer to leave it til later in the day and have a nighttime section somewhere in the middle I'm sure we could sort out an official to check us away and back again even if we had to all chip in to facilitate all this.... maybe some kind of poll may be in order... Hope i'm not being too presumptious here as i have yet to meet you all on the road.. but it IS the bikes that link us all together isn't it..........!!
