Fuel

Been away and not had time to look at the forum, but with the latest fuel protests and proposed planned further protests over the most important weekend I was thinking of taking a fuel can with some fuel, which means I now need to take a topbox

I have a Zumo, which would allow me to ring around to get fuel if we needed

I expect the motorway services would more than likely have fuel and generally people would not pay over the odds when they can go to local fuel stations

I have been a victim of this in 2000 during the last fuel crisis trying to get home from Spain through France and eventually the UK. The ferry from Santander did not turn up. Only option was a 9 hour blast overnight through France to get to Cherborg - we were all on sportbikes with minimal range. Just made it but it was a pain trying to find fuel and fuel cans - they didn't have fuel cans at fuel stations!!

Am I being paranoid or overcautious but I would not want to let the event down

Re: Fuel

If everywhere gets restocked during the week and they go on strike next weekend - we should be fine.
failing that, we'll have to organise fuel dumps along the route - Mel might no longer be sweeping - he might be driving an army petrol tanker

Re: Fuel

Hardly any fuel left in Cornwall, but it's one of the worst affected areas in the country. I still got back OK from Sussex yesterday though.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Re: Fuel

Was listening to the news this evening about the chronic shortages in Cornwall (no fuel in Liskeard).
My thoughts are that we might, if worst came to worst, we might have to double up for the last leg with a few going pillion to spread the fuel more thinly.
I'm sure it won't come to it.

Not allowed under Iron Butt rules,
(not that anyone would want my fat arse on their pillion)

Just have to fill up at every opportunity and take it easy if it looks like there might be a shortage.
(Can't imagine it will come to that tho, Liskard might have run dry, but not on Saturday, there were only 10% of garages that had run dry by 9am this morning)
