The Longest Day Marathon Riders Association.

    Waddya think?

    Here's the idea.

We set up our own approval and validation system for marathon rides. All those taking part in and completing a TLD event get automatic membership on donation of £10 to the justgiving website for that year.

Those copying the run at any other time, or one of a number of approved runs which we will erm, er, approve and validate, pay £20 to cover admin/validation and membership costs.

Less the costs of the certificates and pins and decal for the bike, all money left over goes to the charity we are supporting that year.

My thinking is that it will allow us to raise the profile of The Longest Day as an annual event, BUT more importantly, it will allow us to continue to raise money for our nominated charity by the efforts of other long distance riders, (throughout the year, in fact all year long,) looking to join and be approved by our Association. It will also offer a viable and worthy alternative to other long distance rider organisations/associations out there, with the specific mandate that they know the money is being given to charity, and not into someones pockets.

Right, before I say anymore, has this thing got legs, do people think it might work, or should I go back to sleep

I also would maybe change the logo and make the XRV a bit smaller.People with other bikes not belonging to the forum might not want a big fat XRV sticker on there bike
Maybe something like Marathon rider association sponsored by XRv

    or something like that

Talking Re: The Longest Day Marathon Riders Association.

Alp I think this is an excellent idea. The main beauty of it is: it opens us up to fundraising throughout the year, whereas at present we stick primarily to TLD.

If riders can’t make our main event i.e. TLD, due to whatever reason, this gives them a chance to “do their bit” at a time that fits into their plans.

    It's got legs....

Snaphappy, ref. Sticker, it doesn’t grab you by the testicles the moment you see it, in the way your other artwork did.

    T,
An excellent idea! This will also give a wider exposure to "The Longest Day" phrase and to support a Charity for a year is also a better approach. As a side, on my business email signature, I include the name of my supporting Charity for the year, last year Macmillan, this year MAWish Foundation. The background colour for the sticker would be less obtrusive if it matched the main colour of the bike's fairing, black, white, silver, blue, red and so on. LDMRA roll-on!

Re: The Longest Day Marathon Riders Association.

This was suggested last year for those who were having trouble with the Ironbutt people.....glad to see its still an issue for those who put in all the hard work and got feck all back..

    Good on yer !.

IMHO... a white Background with blue and orange ( yes , i know, before you start .) may give a better impact visually..

Re: The Longest Day Marathon Riders Association.

The only caveat I have is the allegation of being a clique, which, as you know, gets levelled against us every now and then.

So I think it is important that people can come on these events, for free, in the way in which we have always done rideouts, and those who want a badge or certificate can choose to pay but there's no pressure on people who just want to ride.

On that basis, I am starting a nudist xrv group. You all ride in buff but I reserve my right to keep my clothes on as I have alwyas done.

At least that way nothing will get caught in the stamp as I authorise your XRV Nudist certificates.
