1000 Bikes 500 Miles Ireland Air Ambulance

26 April 2009 sees a 1000-bike rideout across the top half of Ireland to raise money for the island's first Air Ambulance.

Just picture me bleeding into a ditch for 3 and a half hours on an isolated road in Antrim or Leitrim, my life ebbing away as I look to the skies in vain for help. Why this needless agonising death? Because you didn't sponsor the helicopter ambulance. Is that what you want to happen? Well? Is it?

They are trying to get 1000 riders to raise £100 each thus £100k which is what it takes to run this for a year (I think).

Thanks for the good luck wishes, guys. Blue Skies - which start-point are you setting out from? Maybe if we wear bright pink carnations on our helmets (crash helmets that is), we'll see each other?

Boxty, not sure which start point I'll use. I'm halfway between Ballybofey and Ballymoney but may even start at Bangor which I suppose will be the biggest start. A mate is doing it too so whatever suits him as well.

It would be good to know how many are planning to start from each point.

Hi Boxty great run yestaerday. We started in Ballymoney. Just caught some of the Bangor contingent as they left Ballybofey. Mixed bag with the weather and not a cup of tea to be had at any of the stops!! but the day out was very enjoyable.
