    XRV PMR channel

What with intercoms and radio comms getting cheaper more and more of us have them fitted to our bikes so how about a common channel for the forum? That way when we do get together (five capitals etc) we don't have that last minute mucking around getting things synchronised.

    Well how about it?

    Re: XRV PMR channel

    May I make one suggestion...

Drop the 5.X and just use channel 5 without CTCSS tones

There's a couple of technical reasons behind this...but the main one is that different versions of the radios can have different CTCSS tones for each sub channel number

    For example

Some radios use 74.4 for CTCSS 3 where as others use 71.9 for the same CTCSS 3 which means that one radio might not be able to hear another radio... with CTCSS turned off (i.e. no sub channel) there's not an issue..

    Re: XRV PMR channel

What with the problems the forum has had over the last day or so I was thinking about 4.04

Anyway I think it's somewhat academic as long as we all use the same one.

Snaphappy. As you are the keeper of the FAQ how about you get the choice. You have 8 main channels with 28 privacy channels on each. I would stay away from 1.11 and 2.22 as they seem to be the somewhat obvious and busy ones. And going by what Kymmy has just posted it may be wise not to use a privacy code at all. Apart from that the world is your lobster.

    Re: XRV PMR channel

Then we'll take Kymmys advice and use a channel with no sub channel
and five is as good as any.

I notice every now and then we get interference but its only about for a few minutes, on the IOM we had a bit more including someone screaming this is the coastguard channel. ( he was politely asked to jump over board )

so how many with PMR ?
    myself Midland G7 via Autocom
    Panrider Midland G7 via Starcom

    Re: XRV PMR channel

i've got autocom on the bike and a couple of midland G7's

but I've got to say.. me and winxp have messed about with them a lot and never really got them to work quite right

we had more joy with the GMRS type but they're not legal

and what kymmy mentioned earlier with mismatched CTCSS codes seemed to be true and sometimes the radios didn't match when only the channel was selected.

they had their uses but we found that we were constantly having to make adjustments to them to get them to continue operating and they just became an irritation in the end.

but i'll bring the PMR's with me and see how they perform with other autocom equipped riders as winxp did not have an autocom only the radio equipment by itself(PTT helmet headset etc)

    Re: XRV PMR channel

    Morning All,

Snaphappy has an Autocom system fitted; I have a Starcom fitted. We both use Midland G7 radios and they work fine. We always use a “normal” channel ie. no sub-channel. (oops just seen post No 7, sorry Nick)
