Smile Charity Auction: Make a Wish Foundation

The Auctioneer walks into the auction Hall, hoping to raise some more money for XRV’s chosen Charity. The Make-A-Wish-Foundation grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses. Make-A-Wish was founded in the UK in June 1986 and, since then, they have granted over 5,300 wishes. At any given time, over 20,000 children in the UK are living with life-threatening conditions and their aim is to grant 21 wishes a week by the year 2010. Whether a wish is to be a princess or a policeman for a day, own the latest computer equipment, meet a favourite celebrity or just enjoy some special time away from home with their family, a wish which comes true, brings so much to a child's life and provides memories for the family that last a lifetime. Each donation no matter how small can make a big impact.

Before Easter the delightful, mystical & highly educated Meesh (is she now Dr Meesh?) bought a wonderful piece of Biker bling to adorn Ben, her beloved Africa Twin. The article was very kindly donated by Italy1, raising £ 39.00 for MAWF. Big thanks to Italy1 & Meesh.

The auctioneer had acquired a number of articles he hoped to sell all in aid of MAWF. Normal rules apply anyone bidding will instantly qualify for a cuppa on one of the TLD ferries. People bidding but who won’t be on the ferry need to meet up at a convenient re-fuelling point along the route, to claim their reward. Bought articles will be delivered into your hands free of a P&P charge on TLD weekend. Payment is to be made into the justgiving website.

Enough of that there is work to be done.

The Auctioneer, gavel in hand slowly starts to walk up the steps of his Auctioneers stand. As he reaches the top he looks out into XRV land, searching for charitable bidders.

“Good Evening Ladies & Gentlemen, a warm welcome to each and everyone of you, to this our Charity auction in aid of MAWF. All we ask is that you dig deep and bid well. With no further ado Ladies & Gents we move straight on to lot No 1. A delightful item, a wonderful piece of crockery, a limited edition piece, highly sort after in the Biker community, in fact no Kitchen service would be complete without one. Ladies & Gents lot No 1 is none other than a “Longest Day 5 Capitals” Mug. Tea or coffee will never taste the same again once you have experienced the delights of drinking from such an exquisite mug”.

“It is for Charity, so Ladies & Gents do I hear £5.00, do I hear an opening bid of £5.00”

He looks around waiting for a bidder to start the ball rolling …..

Ahh The Mug, just click on it it works, taken with a Box Brownie in stealth mode

(A soft little giggle and chuckle rises from somewhere in the room!)

Full of excitement and feeling a little mischievous after having passed my OWL exams (with distinction!) and eager to try out my new level of magic skills... I set out to distract everyone by filling the room with pretty rainbow colours. Undetected by mortal eyes, I dance in and out of the colours and move to the front of the room where I can catch a better glimpse of the auction item.

Ah! Is this a trophy I see before me? Just what I need if I am to claim my drink of tea/coffee on the ferry in June!

A cunning plan - should do the trick!
First, take out my magic stick,
then cast a fine rainbow line...
£8 ... and it will be mine!

Thumbs up Re: Charity Auction: Make a Wish Foundation

Pleased that the XRV’ers are bidding and more importantly raising some more cash for MAWF, The Auctioneer frantically scribbles the bids down on his notepad, Dr Meesh who having filled the room with colour & magical charm, started of at £8.00, there then followed a short break before the bidding took on a whole new dimension, Meesh’s charm obviously infecting all present, making them bid, like there was no tomorrow. Stumpy, Sean and finally Royster with the leading bid

"Ladies & Gentlemen I’m bid £18.00, from the Gentlemen behind the post, £18.00 I’m bid, £18.00. If any one wants to offer £ 25.00 the hammer will instantly fall and secure this delightful item. Any takers at £25.00, any takers at £25.00, do I hear £ 20.00, £18.00 I’m bid, £25.00 will secure the sale, do I hear a final bid of £ 25.00, or a continuing bid of £20.00?"

He looks around, as he does so he also amends his list of cuppa on the ferry qualifiers, already on the list are: Italy1, RockOz, winxp-master, snaphappy, Meesh, largewayround & Duble dee Yuh, 3 more names added to his listStumpy, Sean & Royster. Not bad he thinks to himself, 10 cups of Tea and nearly £50.00 raised so far.

"Any takers at £25.00, any takers at £25.00, do I hear £ 20.00, £18.00 I’m bid, £25.00 will secure the sale, do I hear a final bid of £ 25.00, or a continuing bid of £20.00?"

Slightly taken aback by the sudden appearance of all these men in the room, I hitched up my skirt and scooted outside before I was noticed. I couldn't understand what was happening for no mortal man was supposed to see me......... but then.... I realised that at least one amongst them was 'IMMORTAL' !!!!!! Had he spotted me? Had he given the game away to the nervous rotund gentleman hiding behind the post? What was I to do? ?????

Re: Charity Auction: Make a Wish Foundation

the rotund gentleman was informed by his immortal companion that a lady shiftily left the auction without making a bid. Suspision was rife, was the TLD mug real or fake? Was I bidding on a cheap knock off replica or was it the real thing?
Only one way to find out £18 still the bid to the rotund gent behind the post now wondering if it is real or fake
