    Landing at Larne

Okay, just a couple of questions -

    1) Is the "Chain Check" by Scottoiler still going ahead? And if so, where?

    2) Will there be a congregation after getting off the ferry in Larne? Or are people just to make there own way to the first photo opportunity? (M-A-W in Dublin, if I'm not mistaken).

It's just that I'll be off to the North Coast for the North West 200 road races on Wednesday and could have a word with the boys (and girls) in blue, seeing as they will be there in force (sorry about the pun) to see if they have any concerns, want to get involved (though I admit it is a bit late to ask this).

Or should I not mention it??

    Any thoughts?

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Err, nope. Not got a collection box. Silly me!

I'll have a word with the plod if I can, hoping to get to do this on Friday as there won't be much time on Race Day (Saturday).

Oh, and I'll have to find somewhere to lurk to pick you all up coming off the ferry.

    Re: Landing at Larne

Okay, an update after speaking with the PSNI (Police Service of Northern Ireland) about the TLD.

Having a chat with a member of the PSNI at the Northwest 200 at the weekend, it transpires that any "event" should be notified to the Northern Ireland "Parades Commission", and should be done so 28 days prior to the event.

So, I rang the PSNI Operational Planning section that covers Larne this morning. I explained what we were doing and did we need to do anything other than just inform them that we were up to. The officer I spoke to said that if we were intending to ride en masse then, sticking to the rules, we would need to fill out a form for each police district that we would be passing through and that they would have to be returned no later than 28 days prior to the event. However, he did say that since we would all be making our own way and NOT riding en masse, then we should have no problems.

So, if anyone asks then just say that you have no idea who these other bikers are and that they just seem to be going the same way as you.

Seriously though, this is a big problem. There is a charity walk up in the North soon, from Londonderry to Newry, and the organisers have had to complete three of the required forms since their route covers three Police districts. And they have to complete other paperwork since they will be collecting money en route.

So, no asking for charity donations whilst in the North.

    Sheesh, complicated or what??

Yeah, but in case you didn't notice the last 30 years, there have been a few hiccups in terms of community/police relations in the area.

I suggest we just make sure that when we leave the ferry, we depart in groups of five or six at a time.

The next time we all need to be together (or a big group of us at least) is for the journalist in Drogheda.

I wouldn't get to hung up on this. I've taken part in several ride outs over here in the past few months with between 50 - 100 bikes without any 28 day notification etc. Also as we saw on the TLD2008 and with most bike runs the whole thing splits into much smaller groups riding at the same pace (and direction)

This is true, although on TLD08 there were no "waypoints" or enforced stops like the ferry where we'll all naturally group up again.

However, I'm sure it won't be a problem if we all keep our distance and don't ride like eejits
