Sorry but as it's a route on public roads, each person has arranged thier own acommadation and transport I really don't see that a disclaimer is relevant at all...

A disclaimer would only be relevant for a closed event where the organizers have sole responsibility...

BTW...what has the section detailing who has the rights to your persona (image/voice) with no time limit specified got to do with a disclaimer????

In the end though you should be asking that question in the proper TLD thread

This " EVENT " is as far as I can tell a group of like minded Motorcyclists getting together to raise monies for charity.
As for who owns what comes down to the site involved, as the XRV.ORG.UK site is owned by Daves The Longest Day site is owned by the person who registered the title. With all this bickering we have two possible out comes.
1 ) We lose the sponsorship and backing of the Charities we are trying to help.
2 ) Members will feel they are not being appreciated and not bother in the future.
We are doing this to raise money for charity, that is the sole purpose of doing this.
Therefore let us support the participants as best we can.

Registering the domain isn't the same as having the original idea..

With XRV Dave had the original idea, registered the domain and did all the work to get XRV up and running.

With TLD 2008 there's a lot that went on behind the scenes which a lot of people didn't see and don't know about and the original idea was a group of people. The fact that the domain registration came down to one name doesn't really mean much...

Anyway as Dave said we're getting close to the 2009 event, I wish you all well with it and hopefully next year we can get back to a democratic event that encompasses the true spirit in which the original 2008 event was set-up, organized and completed..

Stuart i'm glad you brought that up because i was thinking along similar lines.

The only thing that bothered me was the last part,`By entering the rally you give permission for the free use of your name, voice, photograph or picture in any form of advertising for the longest day in commercial, promotion or other coverage.`

my name, my voice, in other coverage... whats all this about then? Very strange...
874 Miles in one day...need a bit of a rest first!

    .
Disclaimers are part of the Nanny state that been adopted to prevent being sued by numpties who put dogs in microwaves to dry them off after being washed.

    As I see it
We ride our bikes at our own risk
We travel to Edinburgh at our own risk
We have booked our own ferries and secured our own bed for the night.
There are routes for guidance but are not compulsory.
just as signing a disclaimer is not compulsory you have a choice
No one has the authority to refused or turn away a rider, as this thread says it is an XRV event, just like the National or one of the many local meet ups and ride outs, the only difference being is we are raising money for charities this year and next year and hopefully every year to come

Just a word on the disclaimer.
I imagine quite sensibly that Rob was not wanting to get himself in to trouble for any tomfoolery that might happen along the way. So something to reduce his liability. That seems quite sensible to me, as to the rights to pics, etc... that's a different matter.

One point is that IF this becomes an official XRV event in the future it will be covered by our MAG affiliated insurance scheme, so you can all ride happily and safely in that knowledge.
