    GPS MOUNTING

Found 1st new home for my gps:

Mounted to a crossbar i fitted for the lights and speedo. Not yet wired in, but i like the position - behind the fairing to keep the worst of the weather off it and closer to eye level to look at

I still got a reasonable signal in my garage and with the fairing - i thought it might interfere a bit - but no problem

The transmissions from the GPS satellites are in the radio spectrum, so a plastic fairing will not attenuate the signal significantly. However I'm surprised that you can get a signal inside a brick garage!

It varies. Mine is apparently very good at losing signal when boxed-in in traffic underneath some trees... (Not nice with a six-way three-lane roundabout coming up with a lot of single direction streets, where do I gooooooo )

Other than that, I like it to bits.

After initially mounting my gps, i thought where i fixed it was not solid enough, as it was wobbling around too much

So out with the welder, angle grinder and some old square section steel

I made a new mounting arm which bolts to the original Honda light bracket. I cut and bent and welded the tube with and added some strengthening brackets, and then coated with 2 coats of hammerite. Now it is much better fised - no vibrations and much more central behind the fairing
