How does 9 kilos sound ? I already have a canvass tipi but its too bulky and heavy for the bike , these are rip-stop and light . Choice is 7 or 9 kilos ? At should handle that no problem shouldn`t it ?

from all the people i spoke to about our tipii pegs was a common gripe too, however quite a few said that they dont bother with pegs atall any more but opted to use 'bags'. these work like a peg but are 10 times stronger and can be used on ANY surface, all it is a small bag made of ripstop which you fill with whatever is around..sand snow stones etc and that can either be left on the surface or burried if high winds are expected (one source said if the ground is too hard to be burried then in high winds stick a few stones in the bag and then place a big rock on topOriginally Posted by Xander

personally upto 2 man then its definatly a better option to use a conventional tent but above 4 and definatly for 8+ then a tipi is a way better option as its massivly lighter in weight per person and less bulky than carrying 4 2man tents.
I have different kind of tents for different purposes. On bike trips (AT) I prefer to carry Big Agnes fly creek UL3. Roomy for 2. Weights about 3lb 5oz and packs small. Also using this while hiking.
Big difference to my old north face VE-25 which weights about 12lbs... I use that on summer time when travelling by car and have a lot of mosquitos here in north Finland..
On fall and winter I use more open "tents" like tipi and another model I don't know in english but I attach a link to it; TUNTSA KAUPPA > > . These are ok because you can have fire warming you.
