I think it's brilliant. There are some fiddly aspects - like it's hard to enter an address or postcode with gloves on - but by and large it is very useful. The mapping is clear and the 3D display is usually fast enough to update in real-time, even when you're going around a roundabout!
I don't bother with the voice connection - it's unwieldy and largely useless in my experience. However, having just got a BlueTooth and GPRS equipped phone, I've been experimenting with TomTom Traffic and Weather. The 'fiddliness' factor creeps in again when you want to update traffic data on the move, but it is possible. The dialup stuff seems to work very well.
I've been very happy with mine too, no major problems to speak of other than the shoddy mount that comes with the unit itself.
Replaced that now with a locking Touratech jobby which, although pricey, will be a godsend when touring so you dont have to take the unit off everytime you stop for fuel or to go for a whizz or whatever.
Use it in the car too, it's a good little bit of kit.
I suppose you'd find it limited if you wanted to plot a route across the Sahara or such but for general use it's great. I'm not sure exactly how much of the world is mapped by TomTom, I remember someone asking on here about maps of the Balkans but dont remember a response.
I've had a tom tom now a couple of months. Very happy with it, i agree with point made about the mount, it truly is a pain in the a*!e, mapping is great but fails on post code search once in a while. A quick tip if you buy one, keep a paperclip on the bike somewhere, the TomTom likes to freeze on the odd occasion, and will stay frozen unless you reset the unit......not good if you are only half way there!!, but i love the unit and find the verbal directions useful too, and a damn site easier than the good ol' map pocket
