    Tent Pannier

    Hi all,
I dont have much to tell you at this point I will try and do a wiki if people want me to. But i though i would post so of the basic photos of the tent pannier that i made
Basically I took some PVC pipe

Cut it to be a nice snug fit round my tent

Mounted it on the racks under the pannier

I used a some flat PVC as the end caps, the bottom was just glued in place, But i hinged and set with a lock for the top end cap.

any way it keeps the weight nice and low, the end caps are rubber gasket seal so it is very water tight, and opens a lot of space in the panniers.

in the last two you can see my nice me top box as well..

EDIT: At the end of the job (before the lick of paint),, i cover the entire thing with brackets on with a couple of sheets of fibreglass, this was to strenghen the entire thing and make sure that it was water proof.

Nice work Xander, looks a logical, effective way to carry the tent.

Thanks LV, I cant see why it would not work on the Vara, one advantage on the @ is that my tent only weight 2.1kg, and my end can weighs about 3kg..( i love titanium) , so this way the tent balances the can (more or less.. probly less.. but hey).. on the vara you have twin pipes.. which i love the look of. but you would not be as "balanced" other then that i see no reason for it not to work.

    Re: Tent Pannier

Just had a quick look but i'm not so shure if that would be poss on a vara .I think the tent panier would come down to low under the normal paniers.Hey xander could you have a look at the wales ride report from richieb there is a nice side shot of my vara with the paniers on.If you could have a look and let me know what you think. Also the other problem would be the size of the tent as i have the kyamm biker tent wich is quit a bit heavyer than yours.
    thanks pete

Nice job Xan..... now I can see what you had in mind.... didnt know you intended to cut the pipe to reduce diameter.... I could have supplied you with pipe to suit your tent better and saved you work....

    Topbox looks great too....

    Re: Tent Pannier

I am not sure what what the size of the tent you have is.. so that could be a big issue,, if it weighs 100s of kilos... I have my tent pannier just bolted to the Sw rack.. so that could also be as issue.. so here are my questions

    1) what are the smallest dimentions of your tent (in bag), also can you split it ie.. tent in one bag, fly poles, pegs in an other?
    2) how much does it weigh (if you can split it how much both halves)
    3) how do your panners lock on..
4)do they "split open" (like a suitcase)?
basically i think it is possible.. not using my shape but something could work.. I will be away in scotland for the next week (work not fun) but i could maybe help when i get back

Thanks for that Ox but it was perfect that way (I did not intend to reduce it) but it work out that way so could make it a perfect fit.. all and all i am happy with it.. I am going to edit the first post because i forgot to mention that i covered teh entire tube and bottom with a couple sheets of f-glass to seal it and make is tough as nails.

    Re: Tent Pannier

I know this is only vaguely related , but on the subject of tents , I saw an advert in this mornings' Daily Record for Millets - selling tents for £7.49 !!!

and a package of tent , two sleeping bags and two roll mats for £39.99.

Christ only knows what they are paying those poor bastards to make these things if thats what they retail for ??????
    2011 Triumph Tiger 800 - "Black Pussy" - MMMM Nice !!!
    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!
