Received my copy yesterday. Had problems unlocking the maps using Unlock wizard and had to go through the website instead and all OK now.

There are a lot more maps of mainly former eastern block countries. All the maps on version 8 used to fit onto a 2Gb card and now it's more like 2.3gb so you have to pick and choose.

Whealie, if you buddy up with someone who has got the update and only one Garmin unit, then they will able to register another unit on their account and update your unit and you can then split the costs.

There may be a lot more maps of the Eastern European countries, but from some threads on UKGSer, there's less detail outside the big cities, due to base map differences.

    Slovenia on v8

    Slovenia on v9

    Stolen from the UKGSer thread

Better details for Ljubljana, but big blanks elsewhere, apparently.

it was my free upgrade as i only got my SPIII after christmas. I can get you the number i phoned if you want? Haven't tried putting it on yet though as i don't have net access at home yet and knew i would need the unlock code. I got the codes so i'll put it on tonight probably and see how it goes.

http://www.garmin.com/unlock/update.jsp - release date was 1st September 2006, so if you bought a locked Mapsource product after that date you get a free uplock on v9.

I ordered it two months ago from Garmin.com but I'm not holding my breath in anticipation... I had to get V8 by phoning somewhere in UK and then it came fairly quickly, can't find the phone number though
