    Scottoiler

having stripped my bike down for a big service and put it back together I now find that my scottoiler will not work. I have set it on 'prime' but nothing comes out.
    Any tips gladly received.

    cheers, Bob.

Fast and effective -Buy a 20mm Diameter Plastic syringe from the chemist and use it to force the oil into and through the system.Run the engine @ around 2500 revs (check the vac'pipe is connected to carb) for a minute or so with the oiler on prime. You should now actually see oil dripping on to your chain. This method will sort out any kinks in the pipe and also save you from exploding a 500mm container of scottoil all over the rear end! Don't forget to set back from prime afterwards or you'll lose all the oil within ten minutes.

Oh yeah, over tight cable ties can also pinch the Vac'tubing and/or oil line.So that's worth checkin' too!

Strange Dave's brother Tony (with us in Wiltshire last month) had a non functioning scottoiler and all that caused it was a bit of cack sitting over the outlet at the bottom of the oil reservoire. We emptied it, removed the gunk and poured the oil back in. We were in the middle of Brittany at the time so this involved homemade paper funnels.

Also, valve built into the carb/vacuum connecting pipe can fail, but this usually makes it drip all the time.

Agreed with the above: in my experience, take a needle, or drawing pin and ease it into the oildispenser and wiggle before removing, hopefully dragging black gack with it....

I had the same problem on my Scottoiler when it sucked in some air and I had a series of air bubbles throughout the line. I had to purge all those bubbles out and start fresh. I used a 12 volt mini air compressor as in the pic with the little red attachment they use for inflating toys etc..

They're great, got one myself last month, wouldn't leave home without it!
