    Handlebar Riser

I have been wondering about one of these bits of kit for a while now to see if I can push myself back a little bit and ease some of the "bad back" problems I get. Because of tendonitis in the elbow*, I tend to lean forward a touch to take pressure of the RH elbow.

The problems is not just on the bike, but it has become increasingly noticable after an hour or two in the saddle. The airhawk pad saves the bum, but does lift you a tiny bit and push you back I find. Of course, none of these problems are as a result of getting nearer 50 I am sure.... !

http://tinyurl.com/2gg55w Will 15mm really make that much difference? The alternative would be new bars with a higher lift on them.

    * The quack called it "tennis elbow" but as I have not held a tennis racquet for 30 years, I suspect it isn't really!! He also said not to ride the bike too much, so I am leaving the farm quad in the shed like a good boy !

I've just installed 18mm risers on my KTM and it really has made a difference to my comfort. I was unsure at first because it seems like such a small difference but it really is worth it.

Have a look at this site.
I have a set of the off set risers on my XR And my XT.
They made a great difference, and improved the riding position, and are a tad higher than most other's I have seen for sale.
The quality and finish is excellent.
They post' to the UK and they arrived very quick, and best of all they only cost about £30 for the off set and about £20 for the standerd risers inc p+p .

Do you find that it allows you adopt a more relaxed sitting back style?

VERY interesting, thank you. I will email the guy today! They do not appear as elegant as the machined items with the little recess to drop into the handlebar slot, but I suspect that doesn't really matter too much when you see the state of my bike generally...

The offset seem to offer a really big range of adjustment to the positioning of the bars. Did you find any issues with cables etc needing replacement cos of the increased length?

How long was the delivery did you find?

However, on whipping off the bars today to experiment, there is bugger all to spare on the break pipe The other cables etc look OK. As far as I can see, on the Transalp the pipework below the flexible part of pipe is fixed which is a problem... Whether I can replace the pipe to the splitter at the middle of the forks, I am unsure. Anyone??

try these, they are good quality and reasonably priced. Dont go over 25mm unless you want to change the brake pipes as well.

Thanks, seem a sensible price I agree. Have you fitted one and if so, on what? The brake pipe issue is a problem...

    Re: Handlebar Riser

I had no problems with any of the Cables on both the Honda and the Yam.
The standerd risers do fill the resess bit ,but the off set ones do not, which is not a problem .I have both the off set one's they offer many different positions for the bars, and I'm more than happy with them. The Honda did 650 hard off road miles with them on and The riding position with the bars being that bit higher when stood up on the pegs was very good.
The service is excellent and they arrive in less then a week,I have in the past waited for over 6 weeks for other risers to arrive from only Germany .

    Re: Handlebar Riser

You might want to consider changing the brake line anyway...

The stock (rubber) stuff usually degrades after a few years, and replacing the whole lot from bars to caliper(s?) with steelflex will really improve the feeling in the front brake(s?).

I have risers on my dommie, they have an offset forwards (small bike, big rider) and a net raise of about 5 cm. Which is a lot.

Riding while sitting down takes a bit of getting used to as it feels a bit choppery at first, but standing on the pegs things improved a ton.
