    TomTom RIDER

During extensive "testing" yesterday in the inclement weather, I discovered much to my annoyance that the TomTom RIDER isn't in fact waterproof at all!

After about 2 hours of riding in some fairly torrential rain, Tom decided he'd had enough and switched himself off. Frankly I cant blame him, I felt much the same, but I still had 150 miles to ride home!

Anyway, it appears no permanent damage has been done, a few hours on top of the radiator yesterday evening seems to have sorted him out, however I reckon a few more soakings like that and Tom might not want to come out to play ever again.

    Re: TomTom RIDER

According to the TomTom website the Rider is:

Water resistant and protected against any wet weather conditions
(test: TomTom RIDER was subjected to a sustained jet of water at high pressure from all directions and suffered no harmful effects)

which is IP66 in my book, and by the sounds of it your unit should have continued operating normally. I'd get on to TomTom if I were you.
It's not the age, it's the mileage...

    Re: TomTom RIDER

My RIDER has got drenched a few times with no probs. The only problem I had was that the contacts were not connecting properly to charge the unit. Cut out a few times as the battery died. A wiggle of the unit to re-establish contact sorted it out.

The last year or so though, I've had no problems at all.

    Re: TomTom RIDER

It's got to be worth a few minutes of my time to compose a choicely worded snotogram to TomTom!

No doubt they'll ask for me to send the unit in for testing, which means I'll not see it for 3 months, then they'll send it back and tell me it's working fine...which it is now.

    Hmmmmm
