    Performance Underpants.

    Don't laugh....

I'm (rather belatedly) becoming a fan of 'performance clothing', light weigh, easy wash, quick drying, long lasting, soft on the skin, moisture wicking etc, etc.

My conventional cotton 'duds' are pretty uncomfortable, particularly after a couple of long hot days on the bike.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or reccomend a particular type/brand?

    Thank's all, Phil

That's OK Pete, IF I make it to the national, I'll just 'air' me undercrackers outside.

    That'll get em all back

    Re: Performance Underpants.

I've got various Performance layer bit's & pieces which I got together for 'walking' & which double up well for bike use. I always found u/p's to be a bit of a weak spot in the "get up". You don't want them to be too warming, because we don't want to be too warm 'down there' do we ?? & all this Performance gear, by virtue of the way it works, ends up stinking like a rancid Tom cat in very short time, even if it's got "silver" in it & all manner of other high tec anti-stink treatments & fibres. It's got to be a fresh pair a day & twice a day if needs be, & I'd just go natural & loose, cotton, or silk if you can afford/find it.

If you're sweating "that" amount simply from sitting on a bike......I think you need to see a Doctor

    Re: Performance Underpants.

    Where to start!

OK, no jokes, but this is a subject that's pretty close to my heart (or similar!)

The best undercrackers are IMHO North Face, £16. They are a very lightweight fabric, that "wicks" moisture away, and into the next layer. They always feel dry, even just out of the washer, and aren't warm, not even compared to cotton. Patagonia do some, but the Gents (£20) version is in their "lightweight" fabric, which is quite warm. Girly (£12) versions, in their "Silkweight" are awesome, but the "cut" is exciting, especially in shorts!! Try "Outside" for them, Ill try and dig out the website in a mo.

Layer these under a decent pair of cycling shorts, with a bit of padding underneath. I've found "polaris" versions, Halfords £20, better than Lycra versions, which can feel cold when wet and not exercising (eg. riding back from a rally)

Even on the little bike this set up can leave you bruised, but not sore, as in rubbed, without the need for talc/vaseline anti-monkey-butt remidies.

I use a ton of "techno-fabric" stuff, all multi use with the mountian/kayak kit. It really is a world different to jeans and a t shirt!
