    Waterproof electrical connectors

I use an Optimate and have a lead coming from the battery dangling from the side of the seat to connect it to when I need to.
However the connectors that they provide are crap.
What can I change them to? I'm struggling to find anything available on-line.

    Re: Waterproof electrical connectors

What I did was to install a waterproof cigarette lighter socket on all of my bikes and connect it directly to the battery, likewise I replaced the crappy connector on the Optimate lead with a cigarette lighter plug, now it's just a question of plugging the Optimate into whatever bike I want to trickle charge, has worked flawlessly for years and you can get the parts for pennies from Maplins.

    Re: Waterproof electrical connectors

I did think about that but I want something smaller really. Similar to the crappy connector on the Optimate.

Try, 'vehicle wiring products' or 'Richard Deex trading', certainly VWP do automotive style waterproof connectors.

    Re: Waterproof electrical connectors

For something 'just like' the Optimate connector but better,go to Maplins and get a 'Race Connector'.

It`s a two pin plug with matching socket and short red and black wires already attached .

    Re: Waterproof electrical connectors

I have the Oxford Maximiser which is the same type of thing and that comes with a rubber cap for the connection on the wires coming off the battery. I had seen these on eBay but now I want some for another purpose can't find them anymore.

The seller on ebay had the shaped connectors for both male and female with rubber caps in a kit form so you could make up your own connectors.

Dave - for the lights on my Zegas I use AMP Superseals.

They have been tested in our 'mild winter weather............' with absolutely no water ingress at all...........highly recommended.

    I bought mine from here

I used a twin pole phono socket (sort of thing you plug into an amp) that panel mounts so all connections are out of the elements.
